1970 Cutlass Wiper Problem

Last week I installed a new wiper switch in my 1970 Cutlass and while the wipers technically work now, they are not running correctly. They go up about 2 to 3 inches and then go back down and they just keep doing it. I don't have a lot of experience with the wiper system on these cars so I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas? Thanks guys!

This problem is usually caused by either a bad wire to the wiper motor or bad contacts in the park circuit of the motor itself. The Chassis Service Manual has a troubleshooting section on this exact problem.

I had a wiper switch do this recently & went to replace it & found out one of the screws that hold it to the dash was a bit loose & that screw provided the ground path to the dash ground. I tightened it a turn or so & problem solved. Might not be your issue but good to check. The switch was also getting very hot to the touch after running for 5-10 minutes which could be explained by high resistance in the ground circuit I believe.
