dial bore gauge.

dial bore gauge.
If I have new ARP studs installed (461 olds) is there a major difference in using a .0005 or .0001 dial bore gauge to check the mains. Before the studs i had stock bolts. The machine shop that installed them said they checked and everything is in spec and doesn't need an align hone. I want to check myself but I'll have to invest in a bore gauge myself. If someone can help i would be greatfull! Where can I find an affordable dial bore gauge $40-$150 that's will get me accurate results. Is there anything else I need to check to make sure it doesnt require a align hone? I saw one at eastwood .0005 for $60. since align hone should be the first step at the machine shop can it be done last if I end up needing one? someone said to just install the crank w/o the rear main seal and see if it turns. i want to get this done right. Thanks everyone who looked!

Years ago I bought a dial indicator set online from enco tools. Not the highest quality but it got the job done.
They are msc tools these days:

Hey guys thanks for chiming in. I ended up going with a Mitutoyo 511-753 accurate to .0001"
The bores seem pretty darn round with the ARP bolts torqued down to ARP's spec with ARP lube. I have not attempted to verify bore alignment yet and understand a dial bore gauge is not the tool for the job.
