Standard or turbo mufflers? 69 442 stock motor manual trans. Its been a long time since I've heard turbo, opinions?

You can't go wrong with Dynomax Super Turbos. They are great for price, sound and power. Triple win.

X2 on this. The 21" case is slightly quieter than the 14" case (but not as much difference as I expected) and looks more like original if you care about that.

I just replaced the original exhaust system on my '71 SX 455, and the shop used their 2.5" pipes with turbo mufflers. Engine sounds great at idle and under acceleration, but you can still hold a conversation at cruising speed. The system is mandrel bent and is warrantied for the life of the car, plus I didn't pay a premium for a name brand like Magnaflow. You may want to ask your installer about adding a crossover or 'H' pipe. Good luck!

Go to a local shop and see what they have to offer. Often, exhaust shops will carry house brand turbo mufflers that can save you money and perform just as well as more expensive name brand mufflers.

No matter which you choose, you might want to make certain the mufflers do not create a droning noise inside the car while cruising, unless you enjoy that feature. The mufflers on my brother's car were so bad you could not wait for the next stop light to get relieve. He replaced the mufflers with Walker Quiet Flow mufflers and the droning stopped while still giving a nice rumble out the exhaust tips.

I had a Cutlass S back in the late 70's and I put a set of turbo mufflers on it.
For the life of me I don't recall why I didn't like them but I removed them and ran stock mufflers.

Turbo mufflers, of the 70s, were little more than small almost hollow turbocharged Corvair mufflers. In the 80s, a new muffler style was created/designed by David Vizard. Much quieter and flowed much better than current other mufflers then. They were called "Sonic Turbo Mufflers". At some point Walker acquired them and called them Turbo mufflers. So the 70s Corvair mufflers are not the same, as the current Turbo style mufflers in sound or performance.
