how to remove fuel sending unit

I need to replace the fuel sending unit on my 67 cutlass , mine is covered with undercoat and can't see how it is removed , if anyone has replaced one let me know how to get it out.

Sid, there is a ring that fits under a collar which retains the fuel sending unit. Use a hammer and a punch to rotate the ring and remove it. You can then remove the fuel sending unit. There is a big rubber o-ring between the fuel sending unit and the tank.

Here are some pics that should help.

Be sure to use a brass punch or something that will not make sparks.

The ring has to rotate about half an inch to disengage.
