Hi all,

My '71 Cutlass convertible top has a guide pin and recepticle only on the drivers side, but none on the passenger side. My '72 had them on both sides.

I am told that this is correct, however at highway speeds, the car has a loud "roar" that is coming from a slight bit of air being forced between the top and the header.

I am wondering what would be involved in retrofitting an additional guide pin, and the correct recepticle from a '72? anything other than simply swapping the one recepticle out and adding the additional guide pin?

anyone here done such a thing?

I've had & seen many convertibles & have never seen a guide pin on the passenger side. Are you 100% sure yours had them on both sides?

Yep, my '72 had them on both sides.

I don't think an additional guide pin will stop the top lifting and wind roar. It is the latches that keep the top down, not the guide pin. That big ol' top acts like a wing and lifts at speed, and that puts a lot of upward force that the latches must counteract. Opening the window slightly will relieve some of the interior pressure and keep the top from lifting.

You may very well be right. However the guide pin does help keep the top properly located and aligned long the header, and my understanding from our local convertible top specialist is that this was why GM began making them with pins on each side rather than just the one side.

I would at least like to try any possible solution, if it is feasible?

That is interesting. I have the same problem w/ my 71.
