Is there a way to raise and lower power convertible tops manually? The top on my 62 Cutlass seems to be getting weak and I would like to know if there is a relatively easy way to do it manually.

Probably, but you would need to disconnect the lift cylinders from the top frame.

On many models, the power top was an extra-cost option - it could also be had in a manual version.

In these cases, the manual version generally had a pair of springs where the cylinders were, to help at the hard point in the raising and lowering process. There may be an illustration of the arrangement in an Assembly or Parts manual.

Cylinders can be disconnected but it will be heavy when raising it. And try to flop back when lowering.

My driver's side cylinder is getting weak. Found I can reach back and give it a little help when first starting to raise it and it's OK after that. Borrowed time I know but other projects are higher on the priority list.
