Looking for any info about what people do to replace the inner on a 64 starfire or similar hub drive speedo cable.. The outer is in perfect shape.. My plan is to just order a new cable extra long and cut it. prob have to fab up some type of end cap where it attaches to the hub.. quickset JB weld perhaps.. anyone scienced this out? if not ill be the pioneer. and if anyone knows the length that would be nice.. i saw a complete one on obsolete olds for $299. ouch!

The square cable is standard and you can just order a longer section and cut it to length. The outer sheaths are unobtanium, so be sure to keep yours in good shape. There should not be anything special needed for the cable at the hub end. The dust cap on the driver's side has a female drive fitting spot welded to the inside of the cap. This fits over the bare end of the square cable. That's all there is to it. If this drive fitting is missing, then yes you will need to fab something up. The Corvair uses a similar cable drive and Corvair repro vendors sell the cap for those applications. While the 'vair cap won't fit an Olds, you might be able to harvest the drive fitting and spot weld it to an Olds cap.
