63' F-85 wheel and tire selection

Hello everyone! I have a question that I hope one of you will have. I have a 63 F-85 and I'm getting ready to order some smoothie wheels. I'm just not sure on size. I want to put 15in rims on, but don't know how wide I can go and tire size. I guess I just need to know what the biggest wheel and tire combination I can go with without any troubles. Thanks in advance for your time!

I know first hand that 215/60-15s fit fine all around on the optional factory 15" wheels. You want zero offset wheels.

Did the optional 15" wheels come with 5 studs or the regular 4, as with the 13 inch standard wheels?

Thanks

Every single 1961-63 F-85/Cutlass made has a 4 x 4.5" wheel bolt pattern.

If you're OK with aftermarket, Wheel Vintiques 12-570404

How did you make out with your tires?

I have a 63-f85 and am about to purchase as well.

I would love to see some photos if you have any.

Thanks!

Hey there Joe, could you have a quick peek at my purchase to be?

I just wanna make sure I'm buying the right wheels and tires for my 63 f85 before I pull the trigger.

Much appreciated

I think you will be very happy with that combo. The only thing you need to be aware of is that the stock lug nuts are LH thread on the driver side of the car and RH thread on the passenger side. I ended up swapping the lug studs on my car to all RH thread to avoid that problem.

Are you saying I can put 15” wheels on my 63 F85 deluxe wagon?

215/60-15 tire size didn't exist in 1962.

The available tires were likely something like 5.90x15

EDIT: I can confirm that 5.90x15 tires are 25.62" in diameter, right between the 6.50x13 and 7.00x13 tires.

15" rims

I know this is a long shot but does anyone know where I can get a sec of OEM 15" rims for my 63 f-85?

I have a set of 13's in excellent shape if anyone has a trade.

Much appreciated.

It took me about five years of searching to find a set of four, two at a time. I had good luck over at AACA. Keep in mind that Skylarks used them too.

F85 1963 deluxe wagon

Dave

i just purchased 12-570404 15” x 7” steel wheels from Wheel Vintiques for my 63 F85 deluxe wagon. I appears that the wheels stick out too far in the rear and the tire will rub on the wheel well. Did you have this problem?

thanks

bret

I got 15x7 inch rims. They were zero offset. I put 215 75r tires on them and they barely rubbed the wheel wells in the back. I just rolled the lip of the quarter up a little bit and it is now fine.

215/75-15 is a very tall tire (27.8"). I'm surprised they fit the 61-63 cars. 215/60-15 is about the same diameter as original at a little over 25"

63' F-85 with wheel vintiques 13 series smoothies

I am about to paint the centers of the wheels blue here in the next few days. So I'll post a pic when that's done.
