'62 Starfire vacuum cannister

Is the '62 Starfire vacuum cannister located on the rear of the left front inner wheel well supposed to have oil in it? If so how much do I put back in.
Thanks... Dennis

No , no oil or anything , it's a VACUUM tank .
It is separated from the manifold by a check valve . It stores vacuum for one additional POWER brake application , after the engine shuts off .

1/2 qt oil

There was about a 1/2 qt. of oil in the cannister when I removed it from the car. Where is the check vlv located? I'm putting discs on the front with drums on the rear. Will one of Tony Ross's engines give me enough vacuum?
Thanks... Dennis

Was it oil ? Or old brake fluid ? In either case , there should be nothing in there .
The check valve is located on the rear of the intake manifold .
The fact that there is fluid in the vacuum tank , leads me to believe that there may be a problem with a master cylinder leaking .

In any case if you are going with disc/drum brakes then you should get a new dual master cylinder ;

This cylinder has outlets on both sides . Important because you will need to use the outlets on the right side as there is no room on the left.
You will also need a porportioning valve . One from a late sixties or early seventies GM big car will do .

In the early sixties Olds bought power brake units from two sources , Bendix and Moraine. The Bendix unit has four bolts holding the master cylinder on it . The Moraine unit has only two bolts holding the master on .
The kind you want , if you don't already have one , is the Moraine booster.
It will bolt up to later dual master cylinders .

Tony Lombardi , of Ross Racing Engines , builds lots of different engines .
Unless the cam is very radical it should work with power brakes .
The best idea , is to ask Tony himself .

Brake parts

Thanks Charlie, I have all the parts you mentioned. I sent all the old brake parts to Master Power Brakes in North Carolina and got back all new parts including modified spindles to mount the caliber to..... Dennis
