1961 F85 Exhaust system
Hi ,
My name is Guillaume , i live in france and i own a nice 1961 F85 . I like this car but i have a problem with my exhaust system i ordered .
The section of the long tube which comes to fit in the muffler touches on the rear shaft ! i contacted the warehouse where i bought it and they sent to me another tube with a different design but , the same problem with !
So , i am looking for pictures or others informations to know where the problem is just to know if all is ok about the installation of my exhaust system . If you own a 1961 f85 could show me picture about how is your exhaust system ?
Thanks for helping
Guillaume

i hope too to find someone to help to understand why i have this problem ! it looks like something is not good fitted ( lower and too much at left ) but all looks good . the muffler with the tail pipe are at the good position, the Y tube too just this long tube makes me crazy !

Hi Guillaume, Did you replace the y-pipe also?
There are two different types:
Type 1 for '61-early '62, where the driveshaft center support bearing is bolted to the floor.
Type 2 for late '62-'63, where the bearing support is bolted to small crossmember.
If you have the Type 2 Y-pipe, I believe that the outlet will aim the exhaust pipe more towards the driveshaft and create the problem you are having.
This is coming from memory and I do not have any pipes left to compare the two types, but it is a possible source for you problem.
I will try to get a picture of the pipes on my '61 wagon, but look in the cars for sale section here, I will be listing it shortly and there are many pictures of the bottom on my listing.
If I can find a more direct answer I will let you know.
Good luck.
Jim
