Shifter Question!

Another random question for the "Other" category. Hope you fine Olds people don't mind my serial posting.

I've got a '72 Cutlass S with 3-speed automatic transmission and a floor shifter. My floor shifter has the annoying habit of lighting up 2 when I'm in D. In other words, the shifter does not correctly match up with the gear I am in.

I remember in my '87 Cutlass with the column shifter, there was a small string/wire that hooked onto the steering column that you could adjust to fix such a problem. Does anyone know how this works on the floor shifter?

Any input would be nice. I'd hate to take apart a bunch of unnecessary stuff for such a minute issue.

Thanks again!

-Russ
