replacement gas tank

Guys:
I need a replacement gas tank for the restoration project on my 66 Cutlass, the ones I find have a footnote that says "2 vents in the rear" My original tank had only one vent line on it with NO return line, would the second vent line be for a return line? If so, could I just cap off this line?
Thanks, Ron

I have no direct knowledge of this but I don't see where capping off the 2nd vent or using it as a return line would cause a problem.
My 66 is like yours in that it has a single vent and no return line. If I'm not mistaken (been awhile since I looked at the tank) the vent on the original tank is up front on the right corner so if the new tank has vents in the rear you would have to extend your lines to attach it.

The vent is NOT a return line fitting. The return line is built into the sender, not the tank itself.

Joe:
Thanks for the response, but that does not exactly answer my question.
Thanks, Ron

The vendors decided to make only one tank for 66 & 67, which has the 2 vents and is not correct for a 66. I ended up purchasing a 66 Chevelle tank which had only one vent, and swapped filler necks (the one from a Chevelle is too short).

Ron, I don't see the downside of your process. I mistakenly ordered a fuel sender for my car that had 2 lines when I only needed one. Rather than buy another one and pay return shipping I just did what you suggested. I crimped the line I didn't need and soldered it shut, then capped it for extra seal. Worked fine. Sometimes you have to be like a Cuban and improvise.

Actually he did, just cap the one you don't need.
