Looking for a new oil pump for a 68 buick electra 225 with a 430

Looking for a new or rebuilt oil pump for a 68 buick electra 225 with a 430. Any ideas? I know rebuild kits are available, but this is for my dad who does not want to mess around with a rebuild. Beautifully original car! Thanks!

Hi Chris
I'm thinking the oil pressure problems are due to wear of the aluminum timing cover which also houses the oil pump. There's five new 400/430/455 timing covers for sale on ebay right now, price ranges from just under $300 to about $400. You'd still have to install the metal gears that move the oil. But I'd look into that since your Dad has a really nice car.

Wow, I didn't realize that engine was set up that way. So he would need a new thing cover, as well as the oil pump?

I'm not a Buick expert, but I've had a few and that's what I believe you'll need. There are some Buick sites similar to this Oldsmobile site. If you have the time to do some internet searches reading on one of those sites could confirm/correct what I've said here.

Ok, thanks John. After speaking with a few people, they confirmed what you said. There is no external oil pump like on our olds. They are internal, inside the timing cover. Just. Like you said, two other people I spoke to said the thrust plate sometimes wears and when it heats up, the oil starts leaking past thrust plate nod the oil pressure drops. I am a little nervous to work on his car, since it is a low mileage all original car. If it was my own, I would not think twice... But obviously it is not something that I can buy already rebuilt since it doesn't exist as a separate unit! Just glad I have an Oldsmobile!
Thanks again, Chris
