Ls swap question

in my 67 330 v8 cutlass...anyone recommend swap motor mounts to use? not sure what to get. seems I have to get 67 chevelle mounting "frames" and then motor mounts for the 67 chevelle, but what about the adapters. any insight would be appreciated.

You'll need chevelle frame mounts and matching poly or rubber motor mounts. Search short/wide, tall/narrow motor mounts. My 72 frame was drilled for both Olds and chevy mounts.
As for the LS adapters. They generally come in 3 varieties that set the motor in the original position (1" setback) or farther forward. A lot depends on the trans you'll be using.

You seem like a nice guy, so I'll refrain from saying if you used a proper Olds engine you wouldn't be having this problem.

LOL!!! thank you!! I know, just trying to make a nice, easy driver for my son's first car. better mileage, easy of parts and repair. and kind of a cool factor when you open the hood.

oh, also looking for recommendations on a quick ratio steering box for the car. places rebuild them and then see things like even a grand cherokee replacement box. this thing is like driving a bus now.

Best of luck! He'll also probably have the fastest car in school.

Thank you!!! I hope not on the fastest. the HP is the same for the motor coming out as going in and I am not modifiying it much...maybe a cold air intake. I am not even doing headers on it if I can avoid the expense. he has a friend with a 1962 Impala that his friend's Dad has been doing for him but they just rebuilt the motor that was in it. I am trying to do more of a restomod on this one...old school with new school stuff in it. my son really likes that idea. car has already been fitted for shoulder harnesses, one is in, but I need a longer set and then get the other side too. stereo of course..he keeps bugging me to put subs in it..I tell him we can go and get those anytime at Subway...makes him mad.

Of course you realize just because both motors are rated at the same HP, the Olds 330 was rated at what was known as "gross horsepower" and the LS rating is net (actual) horsepower. It definitely will be a lot faster!

If you're not following someone elses build for a 64-67, you're best off buying a kit made for a 4L60. You have to balance engine location with trans/tunnel clearance and oil pan/crossmember clearance.
I will say that no one has been happy with the "muscle car"/LH8 oil pan. It hangs too low. Check out a CTS-v or holley oil pan.

This might help choosing parts. And search for the jeep GC steering box for your 67. I know it works in 68-72 and was the best $50 improvement on the car.

I've read 92-98. I picked up a 98 for 35 bucks at the yard. Now if I can just get the arm off mine.

This is supposedly the rag joint you need. Not sure about the fbody, seems odd it would only be two years.

Not from what I have read. The box bolts up, but it is my understanding you still need the rag joint to mate it with your steering shaft.

See posts 138 and 139 for GC box parts needed for a 68-72. Not entirely sure on earlier cars.

The ebay pan is the LH8 pan that hangs way too low.
