Do you have a wiring diagram for your car?
Since the starter is on the passenger side, I used a ford starter solenoid for my mini starter. I extended the battery cable to the firewall behind the passenger side valve cover where I mounted it. From there I wired in a relay to work off the resistance wire for the ignition and supplied an hei with full battery voltage through a 12ga wire. The rest of the stock wiring is intact to the gauges.

This is for a Chevelle, very close. As you have a 454 in your car I moved your thread to the non Olds powered section.

Your almost there, the wiring is not that hard. The purple wire is goes to the starter solenoid if you don't want to use a Ford solenoid, get a longer cable for the hot wire to the starter from the battery and route along the fender to the firewall and down from behind the passenger valve cover. I don't know what your using for a distributor.

Unfortunately there are no purple wires...whoever had the car before us made sure to make everything as hard as possible by using one color of wire FOR EVERYTHING!!! There is a pushbutton to start the car as well as a turnkey...and that pushbutton looks the same as the one right next to it that is connected to the general lee horn (kind of cool but the amount of wires added is such a headache)
