I got the tank from a 95 Caprice. My buddy owns a muffler shop and he told me to drag the car down one day after hours and we could get the tank in. So it shouldnt be to hard to get it in there. Im also using the caprice straps.

Caprice straps......ahh....IIRC you'll need new mounts welded in.
That's what I saw on another A-body with the B-body tank and the straps that went with it.

Whatever it takes, post up some pics and the progress.
This was the only real bitch part of my swap so far.

You're lucky to have the lift......ooooooh so lucky.

I used the caprice tank and made my own straps out of 1" perforated flat stock. The only mods were that I had to widen the rear strap holes. I think the original straps were 3/4 or 7/8". I also added a bolt to secure it to the car there. The original was simply bent around a mounting slot.
I thought it went in pretty easy.

If I used the style you used Gary it would have been 100x easier.
I just wasn't sure if that was going to be strong enough over time.

The solid 1" wide steel bar stock I used is much harder to work with.
It doesn't flex on it's own, you have to bang your bends into it.

Getting those bends in there with this stuff they had to be near perfect......huge PITA.

Got the intake back from the body shop. Had it painted the same color as the car. Got the throttle by cable hooked up. Corvette water pump and crank pulley put on. Waiting on the alternator bracket to come in now.

Did you do the stripes yourself or did a shop do them ??

Drivers side looks a teeny bit shorter.....or is it just a deceptive picture ??

The shop did them. They are a white pearl. He text me pics last night about 1am.

I think its just the angle of the pic and the shadow on the hood (I hope). I didnt notice that until you said something. We wont be able to meet up until Monday evening. He is working out of town all weekend.

Got my new hood today! Ordered it from Rob at Fiberconcepts. Looks good. Hopefully this weekend take it to the body shop and drop it off.

Also got most of the pulleys put on the front of the motor, finally.

Just a hint on the hood. Dont have it painted before you have it and everything else bolted onto the car.

Yeah the car will hopefully be bolted all back together sometime soon and then the hood will be prepped and painted.

Well, I finally drug it out (kinda had to, moving out of our house on the 1st) and took down to my buddys shop Saturday. Minor trimming of the rear frame rails. Used the original mounting areas from the original tank. Just drilled a hole through the rear mounts to add a bolt through and the front bolts lined up prefect. I did not cut a hole in the truck floor. Need to take the straps back off and paint black, but other than that pretty much down with this part.

Too funny.....at the rate you're going you are going to finish before I do.

I just moved, and haven't touched my car since fall of 2011.

Just a quick update. Not much has been done since this summer. Front clip is installed and the hood fits really nice.

Reproduction Bumper Source?

It seems you are pleased with the quality of the reproduction bumper you used. I'd like to know which source you used for the part. I'm trying to decide whether to have my original re-chromed or go with a reproduction.
I'm enjoying following the progress of this project. - Steven

I bought the bumper off ebay from the lowest cost one I could find (I think it was Tamraz's). I believe they are only made by one company. Mine has not seen any weather so I don't know how it would hold up on a driver. They feel about the same weight as the original. Chrome quality is decent.

When I was looking at a rechromed one it was going to be over $900. I have heard bad stories about rechroming shops doing awful jobs on the front and rear bumpers too. So I guess it all depends on what you are looking to spend.

I'm looking more toward the $350 variety than the $900. I need both front and rear and a $700 total is about all I can afford. Thanks, I was guessing that the many available reproductions were from the same source.

You can get prices from a rechrome shop. I found some that were cheaper and some more expensive. If you have a local one that would save on shipping. But Ive also had people calling and looking for bumpers after the rechrome shops basically destroy theirs.

Thanks! Nope it looks the exact same as the last pics I posted. Built a house and did most of the work myself. My buddy that's doing the paint on the car has it in his house garage and wants me to help him get the hood latch figured out before he does anything else to it. Also been in school the last 2 1/2 months Mon-Fri and only working the weekends. Gonna hopefully start on it again the beginning of Dec

Decided I don't like the Impala gas tank. It hangs to low, and I am not going to cut out my trunk floor to get it tighter. So if anyone is looking for one, mine is for sale. I spent the money and bought an original style one setup for fuel injection.
