Cool Manual transmission swap

I have a 67 Cutlass and I want to add a manual transmission to it. I already have the console for it
I'm adding an LS to it and want either a 5 or 6 spd. Has anyone done this swap and know what transmission will work with the factory console? It's important that I'm able to use the console that came with it.

If you put a 6 speed in it you will be cutting the floor up to make it fit and I don't know if you will be able to use the console after that or not.

Transmission

I need to replace the floors anyway, so that's fine. I seen a 65 Cutlass that had a 5spd
conversion in it, but didn't see who the owner was. I wanted to ask him some questions on it. He was still using his factory console.

T56 will require floor cutting, not sure if the contour will fit the console. A Richmond 5 or 6 speed will fit without mods. I believe the tremec 5 speed only requires minor mods.
I'm running a T10 behind the 5.3LS in my 72.

Isnt the T10 a 4 spd? 🤔🤔🤔 I wasn't aware the Richmond would fit without mods. Gonna contact them in the morning. Thanks

Yep, running a T10 behind a 5.3LS in my Olds. Also running a Richmond 6 speed behind a 6.0LS in my 68 corvette.
The Richmond 6 speed is great, but no longer available. They still do sell the 5 speed OD trans though. It's pretty much a direct swap for a Muncie/T10. Only crossmember/trans mount changes needed.

Most of the modern transmissions that use internal rail type shifters like the Tremec have multiple shifter location options. I had a TKO in my 69 GTO and I was able to use the stock shifter no problem. I believe there were 5 different positions you could use to move it fore and aft.

That said I did have to modify the stock floor pan hump to clear the larger case of the transmission.

Thanks for the info. I thought you could move it to suit needs. I just wanted to make sure I am able to use this factory console. Was pretty expensive and nice looking, so important to my build
