62 f85

Hello All
i was given a 62 F85 as a gift from a neighbor and was told to keep the car but the rocket had to come out.
I am considering an LS swap for this car.
Does anyone have any information they can share on builds or kit vendors for the y body mounts?
Thanks,
Joe

Lots of A bodies done, but you might search over at LS1tech conversions for one similar to your 62.

Joe, why aren't you able to use the Olds engine, did your neighbor keep it?

Hey Joseph, I've done this very swap in my 62 F85. I couldn't be more satisfied. It's been in there for several years backed by a 700r4. I just completed a trans swap to a T5 manual this weekend. I've got tons of pics and would certainly be willing to provide assistance. I've posted here already. I certainly recommend this route.

Just curious, what T5, bellhousing, and throwout bearing did you use?

the number show the T5 is from an 89 camaro. So it has the canted trans mount boss. The bell I used is from a similar vintage S10 4.3l pu so I could mount the trans upright. The starter "blister" is in the wrong location. I big drill press and holesaw solves that. The s10 bell has a more gentle slope on top and does not contact the flywheel/clutch assembly. But the bottom half, however, is radiused much tighter and needs a fair bit of trimming. I rolled a piece of aluminum to accommodate the flywheel diameter and welded it to return structural integrity to the bell. The flywheel is from McLeod. It mates the LS to older style 11.5" clutch. I also used McLeod's clutch and hydraulic throwout bearing kit that includes a Wilwood clutch master that I mounted inside the firewall alongside the fabbed clutch pedal. Plumbed and bled, it all seems to function perfectly on jack stands. I did have to alter my trans cross member to accommodate the canted mount. Incidentally, my buddy and I just completed this same swap into his 68 W30 weekend before last but used the camaro bell, mounting the trans canted left. He really likes the final position of the shifter. A bit more than you asked, but I hope this helps.
