84 h/o sbc 400 swap?
#2
I got this info from another site!
A SBC drops in a A/G-body chassis easily. You just need to have a pair of sbc frame mounts & clam shells, from a Monte Carlo, El Camino, or a Malibu.
You will need to use the # 2241 Hooker S/C headers as their one of the only headers available for this swap.
The 200R4 should work fine!

haha I prepared to catch some flak over it. But the way i see it is its all GM and I'm going to keep ther #'s matching 307 as i do appeciate the history of H/O. but that 307 is a dog in that heavy H/O. Plus when its done its something not to many people have and a total sleeper!

They are breaking your ba!!s. We don't like putting SBCs in Oldsmobiles here. That said, the swap is a lot more difficult than just mounts, especially if you want the a/c. Want a sleeper? Drop in a strout 350 or 403 SBO, it will run mid-high 13s and be very streetable. And, it is a direct bolt in. Need more? A 455 Olds is a MUCH easier swap than a SBC. Your car, do what you want, but you won't get much help here.

A SBC in a 84 Hurst?
If you really want to hack up an Olds, sell that H/O before you kill it, you'll get a lot of money for it, then buy a regular Cutlass and drop youe SBC in that.

I hope the forum category gets changed before fire and brimstone rain down.
I think the OP's point is that he ALREADY has a SBC 400 to drop in, so this is a low-$ mod for him.
Either way, if he actually DOES this swap, he will burn, BURN, I say, in eternal fire.
I'm just sittin' here, eatin' popcorn, waitin' for this thread to heat up...

Try http://gbodyforum.com/. There is lots of info there on engine swaps.

IMHO, I wouldn't touch the car that way.
You have an 84 Hurst. the car is worth money as it sits, but even swapping in another Olds motor, will kill the resale of that car. Drop a SBC in it, and it's a flat out insult to ANY Olds guy (or gal) that walks the earth

haha lots of flack like i said. And as an owner of a 84 hurst i know the resale value of it but if i was concerned of the resale i would sell it haha i'm going to keep the 307 so if i ever did want to sell it i can put the 307 back in it and no one would ever know.so hurt the resale value you say.... i say build it like oldsmobile should of! yes i would REALLY love to throw in a 455! but right now its not in the cards. Like i said before its all GM manufacturing, why not bring the best of everything into one car a car that only 3500 were made and who knows how many still exist. but another question about this swap what the heck are these clamshells on the crossmembers i keep hearing about what is the actual part name and are the available through and parts stores or am i gonna hae to go junkin?

To protect the forum from personal liability the administrators created the forum "Non-Olds Powered " for these specific posts in the hopes people would stop punching and putting their heads through their computer monitors.

Yeah I'll move it now.
I didn't see it was in the wrong fourm. I was blinded by a rare Olds getting a SBC dropped in
Kinda wants to make me go buy a Yenko Camaro, and drop a 455 Olds in. Then go on a Chevy fourm and brag about it

OK, its not like we're not talking about a Yenko here. We're talking about an '84 with a whopping 184 hp and 245 ft-lbs! And he's going to keep the original 307 for later use. Live and let live.

The clam shells are the motor mounts, which will need to be changed. You also need the frame brackets for an SBC as I mentioned previously. You will need all the accessory brackets for your SBC as the olds probably won't cross over!

Thanks, I'm here to enjoy myself talking shop with fellow car owners that are here to enjoy themselves.
I enjoy comic relief alot. I have a VERY VERY large collection of these.
Eric, come on man open your mind and you'll see it's very simple.
It's just a guy eating popcorn.
A slant of humor saying it would be entertaining to watch purists blow their lids with the Prius motor in the Olds.
Kinda like this guy.
