1963 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight 4dr

Anything special about one of these that is in exceptionally good condition?

I talked to a guy during the summer when I found it parked outside his house, he inherited it from his father in law and said he planned on restoring it, but didnt have the time or the money at the time. the car hasn't moved an inch.

It looks sweet...very minimal rust, straight body, good clean interior. 425 big block.

I might have to go talk to him again soon and see what his plans are.

besides being a cool car, they aren't really "special" I am rather fond of them. Unless someone has done a "conversion" 63 / 64 Olds FSC's came with the 394 and the "slimJim" transmission.

Is the car a hardtop or a sedan? The hardtop came in a 4 window and a 6 window version. The 6 window version is a little more sought after and has the "Luxury Sedan" script on the interior. The extra windows are in the C pillar in between the window of the rear door and the rear glass. They are fixed windows.

Here is something cool about the 63 Oldsmobile 98. Watch the movie Dirty Dancing and you will notice that the protagonist's father drives a 63 Oldsmobile 98.

I don't recall...but I do believe it was a six window.

It's just a pipe dream anyways...i'll never have the money to take it off their hands. literally all it needs to be restored is detailed from stem to stern and painted.

You could always ask the guy how much he wants for it. The worst he could say is $1 million. You could go take some pics and post them and let us look at the eye candy.

I remembered incorrectly...it's actually a two door, which I find very interesting. I snapped some quick photos today, i don't know how they'll turned out because it's cold here and i didn't feel like stepping out of the car. will post them soon.

I took a picture of the front of the car, but the first picture on my camera every time i turn it on never turns out and i always forget to take a random pic first. needless to say though, the front is in the same condition the rest of the car is in (and the interior is great).

When I got to look under the hood, if i remember correctly, the air cleaner decal read Super Rocket 425 and the engine paint was orange. I don't think the engine was ever rebuilt, but I could be wrong.

The car also has a vacuum gauge, if that's of any help.

I will probably go talk to these folks again, I am quite intrigued.

Cool car. If the air cleaner said 425 then it isn't original. Perhaps the old air cleaner was damaged and they just went to the junkyard and found one. The 63 98 originally had a 394.

1963 was first year for Ninety Eight Luxury Sedan option. The 64 version was especially nice. The moniker meant something thru about 1970, but lost a lot of its distinctive interior stuff in 1971.

Think it's a 63 Super 88 Holiday Sedan, in Barktone Mist. There's a 58 Olds in there too. Owned by Roanoke VA AACA members, as the movie was filmed near Pembroke VA.

A 1965 aircleaner is identical to the 1963 piece except the piepan, so that's probably where the 425 reference came from.

For years, you never heard of or saw a Ninety Eight Custom Sports Coupe. About three years ago, they started coming out the woodwork. 64 is still more common than 63. Best word I can think of to describe a 64 is "slinky". There was one for sale at Metrolina Charlotte swap meet two weekends ago. I had looked at that car in 2003 and passed as it was not running at that time and was just more than I wanted to tackle. Best I can say for it now is that it DOES run, but still needs a lot of work.

This guy has an interesting web site, but it seems very out dated like it was done back in 1998. Anyone know who this guy is ?
