Dual exhaust '72 98 455
This seems like a good way to go, right? The Thorton manifolds are listed for "A" body.
I don't think custom fabricated pipes at an exhaust shop would be any less or any better.

You can run duals without those manifolds on a 72. You would just have to plug the exhaust crossover opening on the passenger's side manifold. I used an old set of W/Z manifolds on my 71 98 before I bought headers. I would take your car to a few exhaust shops to price their work before making a decision.

For 1972, the single exhaust 455 did not use the "normal" dual exhaust manifolds. The W/Z manifolds used on A-body cars were actually also used on B/C-body cars with dual exhaust. Yes, those will work correctly.

I did get the manifolds and they worked perfectly. Also bought the duel exhaust system from Classic Exhaust OH and it fit great.

Resurrecting an old thread as I am wanting to put dual exhaust on my '72 98. Brought to a muffler/fabricator/repair shop and he knows my car/engine (455 4bbl) well. As noted, can cap the passenger side manifold - though I have an exhaust leak and may need to get a new manifold... I'm curious how your exhaust is doing - if you bought that setup from Classic Exhaust? I can't get them to respond to my calls or emails. Thanks in advance.

We spoke on FB and phone. Maybe they are out of business now? They are not ebay seller anymore either. Just get the manifolds and have your exhaust guy do the rest.
Love your color and the raised whites. It has that Gator McKlusky look.
I had a 73 Catalina 4 door base/base model similar color with raised whites in college days.

Thanks guys. I did finally hear back from Steve at Classic Exhaust and ordered my aluminized dual exhaust system. Not 100% what's going to happen with exhaust manifolds. Where this is a low HP engine, I'm not thinking of headers - what's the point. I just want some extra 'rumble' and 2 pipes out the back. I'm going to start PB Blasting the passenger side manifold for a few days to see if I can get it over and have it "capped" and repaired if needed. Thanks again everyone.
Now, if someone can find me some Olds Rally wheels that will fit my beast - I'll be in 7th heaven. But from what I'm learning, the Rally's are 5x4.75 and mine takes 5x5 - and the SS IVs are not the same looking as the SS I Rallys. Looking at Cragar

You could order a set of Cragars, but be aware that they're dual bolt pattern. The wheels fit both 5x4.75" and 5x5" bolt circles. You use a fitted washer under the lug nut depending on which bolt pattern you have.
Plus Cragar has pretty lousy service. I called them in the past to get dimensions on their Soft 8 wheels. They weren't willing to give me the dimension I asked for to ensure they'd fit my 71. So, I bought Eagle Alloy 058s instead and saved some money to boot.

For the exhaust: As mentioned, I ordered the Classic Exhaust system, https://www.parts123.com/parts123/dy...61a&uKeY=FFFPV , and just curious: How stupid am I to think I might do this myself, in my driveway, without a lift?? I've been PB Blasting the passenger exhaust manifold as that is obviously coming off. I also know it has a lead and may need repair/replacement and will need to have the cross over inlet capped. I have a great welder... I see no issue getting the old pipe off and new setup will come with hangers. Again, my welder can help as needed.
I've done a ton of "driveway" repairs in my years - did a frame off restoration of a '65 Buick Riviera GS in my driveway ...30 years ago. The exhaust shop said he'd need about $1100-1500 to do the work, (I need to confirm), even if I bring the pipe/mufflers/hangers.... Don't want to pay that sum.
Thanks all.

$1100+ is highway robbery!
Find yourself a different exhaust shop. I had new exhaust tips welded onto my 71 98 about a year ago for $70. That includes labor and the parts. Plus, I brought my 96 98 in when I installed a trailer hitch for a new hanger and it was $20.
If you're a competent welder you can install aftermarket exhaust yourself without a lift. I'm sure it's going to be a PITA though. Make sure you have the help of a friend.

Don't say Rally wheels here. Some old timers get their panties in a bunch when you say that!! It happened to me about 4 yrs ago. The wheels/rims that you are looking for are SS IV's. I put a set on my 75 Vert and they totally changed the look. Good luck and nice car sir.
