'77 Olds Ninety-Eight Regency - $2200

Hi all,

I have a chance at a nice '77 Ninety-Eight Regency with 20k original miles for $2,200. It is like new, no rust, runs great. Seller claims original miles. I have not seen it yet. I have seen where one like it sold for $17,900 recently at a classic car lot. Realistically, what would I be able to sell this car for IF I were to buy it and resell down the road in the near future? (I think the front header panel was replaced in the past).

Thanks!

'77 Ninety-Eight Regency - 20k miles - worth $2,200?

Hi all,

I have a chance at a nice '77 Ninety-Eight Regency with 20k original miles for $2,200. It is like new, no rust, runs great. Seller claims original miles. I have not seen it yet, but trying to look at it today or tomorrow. I have seen where one like it (also with 20k miles) that sold for $17,900 recently at a classic car lot, but not sure if that is the norm. It is loaded to the max and has the 403 engine.

Realistically, what would I be able to re-sell this car for IF I were to buy it and resell down the road in the near future? (I think the front header panel was replaced in the past). I have way too many cars and do not need this, but it looks sweet. I may need an SUV in the future, so this may have to go not too far in the near future if I do buy it.

Below are the pics that were taken in March of this year. Sorry they are small.

Thanks!

Gotta love those cushy pillow-top seats! That would be a wonderful car to enjoy.

Two comments:

1. Your photos are too small to tell much from.

2. Let's see the evidence that someone paid 17 grand for one of these. If true, I have some bridges in New York I'd like to sell him. If you can buy one for $2500, they're not worth $17K. If this were true, we could all retire and just flip '77 Ninety-Eights all day.

According to the May/June 2018 issue of the Old Cars Price Guide, a '77 Ninety-Eight in showroom condition is worth about $8,000.

Well, I do not know, that is why I am asking.

Sorry the photos are small, as mentioned, the site I used to host them only make them that large. Basically the car looks like new. I just thought perhaps the seller did not know what he had, thus only asking $2200. We see it all of the time people not knowing what they have an selling too cheap, or visa-versa. Heck, there was a guy post a '77 Lincoln Mark V on my local FB marketplace for $1000. It had 19k original miles and he said if not sold the next day, it was going to be crushed for scrap. He didn't even know what size the engine was until my buddy told him. It was in a storage building he was tearing down. I told a buddy about it and he "educated" the guy on it and basically saved it from the crusher.

I am more familiar with the 71-76 GM cars than I am the '77+ models. I am only going by what someone had told me on the OCA FB page. He said he had a '77 that was appraised for $12,500 10 years ago and shared this link to where one identical to this one with the same mileage was listed at $17,995 and "sold". For how much, I cannot say, but even half off would be $9k.

Here is the one that someone told me sold for $18k...

Call Gateway and see if they'd give you $12k for it. They can resell it and also make a tidy profit. Doubt they will.

Yeah, they would probably offer $2,000.
