Sable Brown 69 98 finally found after searching since 1980.

Some of you may already know my obsession with the 69 98s. We had a new 69 Luxury Sedan in sable brown with a matching brown vinyl top and black interior. Wonderful memories in that car. In March of 78, a Toyota ran a red light and our 98 split the Toyota in half. The Toyota's engine landed on the lawn. Everyone was ok. The 98's front end was messed up but we drove it home with no problem. I always wanted to save the car so it sat in our storage yard from March 78 until November of 80 when we repaved the parking lot so the car was sold. Oh how I missed that car. Fast foward decades later after I build up what must be the largest collection of 69 98s in all colors and models. However, I could never find another sable brown 69 98.... Until just last week. I found a small ad with just 2 poor far away photos showing a 98. I first thought it was dark gray or black. I asked for the date plate information and some better photos. Sure enough, it was code 61, sable brown with a matching brown vinyl top and it's a well optioned up car down to the rare cornering lamp option which still work. Naturally I dropped everything and although the car was not local, I went and picked it up. It's an unrestored original one owner garage kept car down to the paint and top and made the pretty long ride home without an issue doing 75 on the interstate all the way home. Although this 98 is a Holiday hardtop and not a Luxury Sedan that I was searching for, it will do just fine. Since 1980, I have searched under every rock for a brown 69 98. Now it's here to join the 98 collection. It's parked in the garage next to my Glade Green

69 98 Luxury Sedan. I am thrilled! Here are a few photos of "Coco Brown" as we used to call it along with my green 69 LS. All those good memories came rushing back. The feeling is hard to describe, however, I am sure most of you guys can relate and understand. Geez Louise I just love 69 98s.

Herbie, while not a 1969, it was the same feeling for us when this original paint/interior 1966 arrived in our hands like the proverbial 'Baby-in-a-basket' way. It is a virtual carbon copy (well, except for the newer style wheels of course!) of our long departed one we had years ago, down to the working cornering lights too! Enjoy you Ninety-Eight, it is a beautiful car. While not luxury sedans, both yours and ours, nothing beats that hardtop look with all the windows down!

Congratulations! So I have to ask, how many '69 98s do you have? & can you post pictures of them?

Great news. Glad you found one to fulfil your long search. Gives me hope I will find a nice non-A/C '71 Viking blue and Pearl interior Cutlass or 442 clone.

Thanks guys. Yes, I am very happy with new brown bomb. This find was all about the sable brown color combo that I wanted for so long. How many 69 98s? 2 convertibles, 2 Luxury Sedans, 1 Holiday coupe, 1 Luxury Sedan Holiday Hardtop and now this brown Holiday Hardtop plus several parts cars so over 10 69 98s all in together. I am still going to continue to look for a Luxury Sedan in this sable brown color as that is the model I really lusted after. However, this brown Holiday Hardtop is just fine. I am also looking for another Luxury Sedan Holiday hardtop with the rare split front seat option with twin power seats. Very hard to find. The split seats were new for 69 and only offered on the LS Hardtop but were seldom ordered because with this option, you lose the lighted rear seat vanity mirror and the chrome pull handles. The hardtops also miss that nice looking long interior light from the LS sedan. The hardtops made due with the little round interior side lights, as the lower roof line would not fit the long LS style lamp. I will have to post some photos of the other 98s. Silly 98 obsession..

Congrats on your find. You have a very unusual obsession. It is good you are saving these cars since most people only want the engines.

Elegant. No other way to describe these cars.

Gimme big American luxury over some of this modern-day mess that passes for "luxury" any day. Luxury is not feeling like you're sitting on a toilet seat, just sayin'.
