Engine swap question

Hi, I own a '92 Chevy G20 van with the chevy 305 in it. Thought about a 350, but realize the SBC has been done to death. Thought about the chevy i6, then realized I've always wanted a damn Olds, even more so than a Mopar product.

I'd like ideas on what Olds would swap in and what I might need. I know I can't reuse the motor mounts and it may be a PITA due to the doghouse, but I am willing. If I can't find something nice, might just ditch the damn van and do my road trip out of an actual Olds.

But yeah, I have no idea what I'm getting into. I'm thinking Olds 350 or bigger but feel free to help me along.

Darn! Well, I might as well just go buy an Olds if I want one. I know your response was brief, but you're right...it will probably take a lot of fab work.

Welcome. Your 1992 G-van is the same basic body as the late 70s-early 80s vans. Those years were factory available with the Olds 350 diesel motor. It's a long shot, but if you can score the frame mounts from one of those, any 1964-1990 Olds V8 is a bolt-in. Failing that, you can adapt the engine brackets used to mount the Olds 403 in the 1977-1979 Trans Ams. The T/A brackets bolt to the Olds block and interface to the Chevy "clamshell" frame mounts. You might need to fab spacer plates between the block and the bracket to match the spacing on the frame mounts.

Obviously you'll need a BOP transmission, and there are the expected wiring and accessory plumbing changes because pretty much everything on the Olds motor is on the opposite side from the Chevy motor.

I think you are generating a lot of grief for no gain. If mine I'd sell the van if marketable and buy a real Oldsmobile of my liking....Your millage may differ....Good luck in your endeavor....Tedd
