Fuel pump

Hello - looking for some advice...I am currently building a 68 442 convertible. The engine is a 69, 455, bored 30 over, mild cam. Should I use a stock manual fuel pump or an electric one? It does have an HEI distributor.... Stock Quadrajet carb....

I'd use a mechanical.

I would probably use a mechanical although I might step it up to an aftermarket pump with a little more output.

X3 Mechanical. No need for electric with a mild build.

Stock pump says 30 gph under pressure per rob web page.

1/4 mile in oh 15s let's estimate.

At 30 g/hr, and 0.0042 hrs/ race, that's only 0.125 gallons per race of delivery capability. A pint seems like maybe not enough to do that.

Depends on the car and whatnot I guess.

The rob pump appears to flow about 2x as much in general.

It does not say, but one assumes that the flow numbers were produced with a stationary lab setup, w/o the effects of sucking the fuel forward from a tank located 16 ft aft of the pump... against the effects of vigorous acceleration.

This is not a race car. Stock mechanical fuel pump will work just fine. Just make sure you get the right one - should have a return line on a 455.
Check this one at Supercars Unlimited to see if it fits your application.

For around $20, Rockauto has a Carter pump.
