New to the Olds fold with a 55 4 door Rocket 88

Hi everyone,

I just took delivery of my dads 55 Holiday 4 door 88 which is in great shape just need a few things done to it. I would like to re-chrome both front and rear bumpers.

I'm in SoCal in the high desert.

Welcome to the site! Please post pictures of your car when you have time. I used Ogdenchrome (ogdenchrome.com) for a 1965 bumper and was pleased with the price/results. There have been several threads discussing different places people like and don't like for replating. If you have time try the search option and read through some of the posts.

It sounds like your car is pretty complete. But I do have a 1955 Olds 88 4 door parts car. If you come across any odds and ends you need your welcome to contact me.

Well I did find one thing I can really use and that's the battery tray, did a search on the net and not finding much. Are these things being done as repros or do I need find a good donor, also since I don't have an interchange book do the Buick's and Chevy's use the same?

I can look at my parts car, but I don't know enough about this vintage to say what does and doesn't interchange. I know there's several members with cars of your vintage. So you might create a thread asking that question and see if someone can help with and answer.

Welcome to CO from another '55 guy.

Trays are not reproduced and don't interchange with others. I have seen them pop up on ebay from time to time. Tri City is a great place for bumpers.

Look forward to photos

Here's a bit of information which probably won't help much. Group 2.333 of the Oldsmobile parts book (1958 edition) shows for "Support, battery" part number 566191 for 1954 (2nd type); 1955 & 1956 All. These are the only interchanges which I know about. I have one in my '55, but it is needed where it is. That one is original. If you will have a battery on it, eternal vigilance is the price for preservation. (Keeping the battery isolated from the support tray helps.) The best hope is probably a good used one or, if cost is no object, custom fabrication.

Welcome aboard.

You might ask John(2blue442) as he has a parts car and also sells parts.I don't know about So. Cal. but in my area Nor. Cal. chrome has gone out of sight. Most of it is now shipped to Mexico to be re chromed, some good, some bad, some lose parts so be careful who you work with and get someone that will watch out for your intrests....Lost in the fifties..... wow - I'm jealous - pretty pretty car...I'm guessing it's a super 88? (based on the rocker panel moulding) - would love to see some interior shots -
