First Cutlass Deserves First Post

Hi everyone - I have been looking for the right Cutlass convertible for the past 5-6 years and finally found one that fit the bill.

It is a '71 Cutlass Supreme Convertible. It is not an SX but it came with the 442 hood and rear bumper. Power steering, brakes, windows and convertible top for a very nice package.

I did not want a show car,.. I wanted a good condition driver that had a lot of original features. This is the one. Almost all original with the exception of re-upholstered seats/top, and a paint job,.. repainted the original Bittersweet color. Dash is all original, original Rocket 350 motor and tranny, has the chrome trim and beauty rings on the Rallye wheels.

Overall, it's in what I would call better than good shape. It burns a little gas (a little black smoke on startup) and has just enough things that I want to work on.

So anyway,... Here I am and I'm sure I'll be asking questions.

Thanks a bunch,
Carl

Welcome aboard. Now you have the fun job of making sure it's all the way it's supposed to be. Looks like the PO decided not to put the rocker chrome back on when it was painted. I'd be curious to know if that's a repro hood or not; the fit looks pretty good.

Allan - This was not an SX model. I believe the only Cutlass to get the rocker chrome was the SX and the 442. Good chance I'm wrong about that but researching the history of this car told me that the Supremes did not have that chrome. To the best of my knowledge and vision,.. this is not a repro hood.

Shoot,.. I've already made a $300 order to OPG !!! Need a boot for the top, glass for 1 side mirror,... and a car cover. It will stay in my garage but still,.. it needs a cover.

The original lime green '71 we had (obviously not this car) had lower trim like the car in this picture. Also, a '71 442 wouldn't have had the trim.

I don't think the SX had the rocker chrome. It had the chrome that went up the lower side of the car and went around the side markers. The Cutlass S had chrome that went along the rocker panel. I'm not sure if the Supreme and the S convertible had the chrome or not?

Sorry how large the picture is. If you look along the rocker panel, you'll see the rocker chrome that Allan was referring to..........I think?

The rocker chrome I'm referring to is the stuff on Eddie's pic. At the very bottom. I'm familiar with SX models and they had wheel opening trim that only went to the side trim. The car in the OPs pics has full wheel trim - hence my comment.

Thanks for the compliments guys,.. Looks like I need to get that trim on !!

Here she is after I cleaned her up. Yes the top was down but I was very easy with the water. Too bad it's raining here in Tulsa today,... I wanted to go burn some gas. I'll have to wait for Sunday. Spent the last couple nights cleaning up the interior, under the hood, wheels, etc. Nothing major,.. just want to get it back clean.

I'll post more pics when I get a chance. Everyone have a good and safe weekend!!

Like Allan was saying 1970-71 Supreme HT,vert or SX should have the chorme moulding approx. 12" up from the rockers and other sheetmetal!
1972 should be rocker only chrome!

I parted a 72 HT that had the rocker panel moulding with the full length wheel well mouldings.

Same here. It looks fine the way it is. Plus, he'd have to drill holes in the rockers to fit the chrome.
