Olds from Germany...
Well, not quite correct but..
Hi, my name is Marko, age 42, and since last week I´m the proud owner of a ´66 Dynamic Convertible. To be honest i was looking now for almost 4 years for an ´56 Cadillac Sedan de Ville when I finally found the Olds about 15km awany from home. After checking it I decided to ´try´at least the Olds to start up with old american cars and now after about 210mls with the beauty I´m impressed!
You guy´s will tell me ´no wonder´but you have to know that I´m a typical 'user' and do not have the slightest glue about mecanics and technics so far. First I downloaded the manual I found in the web and read about 75% of it. Then I started to figure out the numbers on chassis, engine and trans (not compleated so far).
Some more info about the Olds:
-came to Germany about 12 years ago by american diplomate
-was runing in the former capital, Bonn
-was then sold to german national TV to be used for films
-left in car-pool to get rotten.......
-in 2002 (approx.) was bought by an ealderly men in area if Dresden who started to bild it up again step by step, but since he hat no further info e.g. from the web or any documentation he did this the best way he knew
-2006 the olds became an historical numberplate in Germany, checked value that time 14.800 EURO
-engine 425cui was checked and rebuild
- since then he drove about 5.000km until I bought it
-sold it to get space for new project, 1980 (?) Pontiac...
There are some parts still not 100%, such as rubber-parts not original type, roof to be made new (only cover, mechanic is OK), wipers, air-condition is still in a box in my garage,..... and some optical things to do to bring it back to original. The original AM-FM radio is still in it, but looks like the part in thr trumck got lost, so not working at all. Trans is gong rough when oil is warm, I presume there is too much been filled up.
Your forum helped me as a guest a lot, thanx so far! And yes, photo´s to follow asap when I manage too reach my PC in the office.
Hope my english causes not too many irritations.....
So long for now, best regards and a minimum of 5 gal in the tank

Not sure at all if this is required, but since other drivers will only have eyes on the body... ehm... car, I am happy with it. Markers have to be orange in germany but I have an extra permit for the white ones in the front and the red ones in the back. In addition these lights on the fenders will help to show were I will go next...

Hi, since I now have the trans rebuild, I made the next step to get closer to Original.
First I replaced the old door sealings, better, the not existing sealings with new ones. Now doors and windows close perfect.
Thereafter I changed the tires. When this car became a historical car in Germany, some i*** put 205/65/R15 tires in the documents, which means you MUST only use these. Now I switched to 215/70R15 and made the change in the dox. Attached pls find the tires incl. spare tire that were on the car when I bought it.
I do´t know if this mixture is allowed in the US, here in Germany it is definately not...
Next will be replacement of the conv. top....

Those that do say something about tire size usually say that the tires must be the same left to right, and within a couple of sizes difference front to back, and must be within a couple of sizes difference from the original size in general.
They don't usually say anything about tread type, so long as it's not worn out.
Lots of states don't say anything about it, except for wear.
Since many states do not require inspections of any kind, even if they do have requirements about tires, they are generally not enforced.
Most of us would have a hard time living with all those rules.

Nice guy from Germany with `66 Dynamic conv. looking for adoption by american citizan!
....regarding the rules germany is #1 in the world I think. You are not allowed to run differend sizes of tires at all, only for show-cars (then not allowed to drive on regular roads) or if they were on by the manufacturer (such as SMART). And you MUST have same tire type and size on each axes but do not mix winter and summer tires....

Welcome and nice car.
Had a German kid visit me last year. I forget which town he lives in but it's the southeastern part of the country about 8 hours from Berlin. He has a 1999 Chevy Alero and a 1979 Camaro.
I took him to Homecoming and he said on the mic in front of everybody "I only buy American cars, because our domestic cars are junk!"
