New old guy old school 1957 J2

Owner of 1957 oldsmobile super 88 371 j2 hardtop. Anyone out there aware of what modern power steering box is a bolt in.Car is lowered with cut coils and blocks in the rear. Will bag the rear but looking for anyone using Ride Tech Shockwaves in the front. Also looking for a performance hydraulic camshaft and mechanical progressive carb linkage.Wondering if anyone knows of a supplier for engine accessory brackets,AC,ALT,PS, Last I am looking for someone to cut down the diameter of the original steering wheel and restore it.
Thanks for your help,
Rowdie

Rowdies,welcome to CO.

Here are a few places to look for for vintage parts

Damper Dudes 530-365-2144 may have a three grove harmonic balancer for a 394 for your AC,PS, AL, If this is the hang up or are you looking for stock brackets to fit on your 371?

Tanson Enterprises 916-752-8790 makes all kinds of progressive linkage for hot rods and such they may have what you need or can make it up for you.Is this for a J2 setup?

As far as High lift cams go I haven't seen seen anything new in years, someone may be building something on a special order basis, I would check with some of the specialty shops and see if they will grind one for you, it won't be cheep.

I have no idea on the steering wheel I've always thought a 18 incher was rather unique....Tedd

Welcome to CO.

Fusicks is a good place for vintage repop parts

I do not know of any aftermarket steering boxes that will replace the stock box. there is a company however that can rebuild your stock box with a closer ratio if that's what your looking for. Can't remember the name but use the search function and type in steering box repair and it should pop up

There is a guy who repops the J2 carb linkage as well. He is in the JWO magazine I'll find a copy and post his e-mail

I'm not sure( he wasn't to explicit on this) but I think Rowdies is looking to change out his original vacuum type linkage for true progressive, then again maybe not,it's hard to read minds....Tedd

Yes I want to change out the vaccum linkage.Mondello appears to be the only camgrinder that has cores, rather pricey but very familiar with that engine.Lots of racing history from that era. Thank you for the input. Rowdies

Since when does Mondello have cams for a 371? Do not include a 371 if a company says a particular part fits a 330-455 Olds. Anyways there are actually a lot of places that will custom grind a camshaft for you. I had one done for a 394 and was very happy with it. Also try Ross racing for some parts. Your best bet for brackets would be a parts car

Don't trust Mondello's Check their reputation on the Web. Instead go to Ross Racing engines for your 271 394 engines http://www.precisionenginetech.com/p...ocket-science/

Thanks for the suggestion on Ross Engines,Yes he does have the performance parts I am looking for,Cams, lifters, springs,hi performance oil pumps, rocker arm assemblies, ignitions, header flanges, spin on oil filter conversions and even aluminum heads for my 1957 J2.Would be easier and cheaper to drop a late model crate engine in the super 88 ,but something about seeing that Olds blow the doors off a trifive.
