Seat reference

Are the seat spring frames from other 1970 GM cars (chevelle, grand prix) the same as the 70 cutlass even if the vinyl pattern is different?

Yes, the GM A-body seats are the same seats with different stitching patterns. I believe this is true from 1964 to 72 and I know the swivel buckets from 1973-76 are like that too. It could be true for many more years, those are just the ones I've had some experience with. In addition, some full sized cars used the same bucket seats as A-bodies but with different adjustment rails to attach the seat to the floorboard. John

The seats are not entirely interchangeable from year to year, 64-72. I'm not sure exactly what *is*, but I know that at least the '65, '66, and '67, and '68 Olds A-bodies all have different bucket seats, for example. (having to do with the seat back latches, or lack of)

Yes your right Kurt that between the different years there are differences. I've not compared the 1964 and 65 closely to see how well they match. At first glance the 1966-68 look similar but the 1966 does not have the seat back lock. The 1967 has the same seat back lock/release as the 1968 but 67 used metal seat back and lower sides, 68 were plastic. Then 1969-72 are almost identical. I have seen a difference in the headrest release switches but don't know exactly which years used which style. But between the GM lines for a specific year I believe the only difference is stitching. I've pulled seats from a 1969 LeMans, 1972 Grand Prix and 1970 Chevelle to use in the Cutlass/442. John

The 68-72 seat frame bottoms are identical on all A-body buckets, as well as on most B-body, C-body, and E-body buckets. The 68 seat frame backs are slightly different due to the side release button, but I'm pretty sure the repro seat frame backs can be adapted either way. All of the seat frame backs have provisions for mounting the tubes for the headrests, since these were an option in 1968 and mandatory from 1969-on. Note the one exception is the reclining seatback.

1969 cars equipped with reclining seat continued to use the seat back release button mounted on the side of the seats. Henry

Interesting. In that case, does the drivers seat use the side button still too? (to "match" the passenger side?)
