Question Cutlass sheet metal gauge.

What gauge steel sheet metal was used in 1971 Cutlass fenders and quarter panels.

Thanks

I believe the sheet is 20 ga. structural may be a step up from that but have not confirmed it.

I thought maybe 18...I cut into a 65 cutlass spare fender for a patch panel and boy is it thick...no flex in that metal...They seem to call the metal they use in panels these days "automotive grade" steel...to justify thinner metal..I just measured my fender fir thickness on the side where I cut...came out to .056...so less about .006 for paint...Im guessing it was 50 thou...so depending what chart you are looking at...about 18 guage

I purchase trunk pans for my 65 years ago and they were so thin they were whippy...

You can bet the new repro stuff is not even close... probably no better than 20 guage

Smile To all you guys who replied:

Thanks for taking the time to help an Olds guy. I am 58 and I bought my cutlass when I was 23. Its time to put her back in original condition.

Thanks
