New member from Washington State
Hey, from SE Washington. Been looking for a project car for a long time and have decided to go with an Olds. I have found one here local and am going to look at it this weekend. It is a 69 cutlass 350 w/ 4spd. It is a runner but has some rust on the rocker pannels, rear fender wells and drivers A pillar. The interior is complete and in verry god shape from what I can tell in the pictures. When I figure out how to post pictures I will get them on here.

Scroll down below the reply box to "manage attachments" click on it.
A new box will pop up Hit "Browse"
Then "Upload"
wait a few seconds for the pics to upload then clse that box
Then hit "Preview Post"
And Voila a Pic

Several months ago we set up a newbie section to halt spammers. it may be a slight inconveninence for now but it makes the sight much better. Just post some blah blah blah about your new car and you will soon get the # of post need to use the entire site.

I wanted to post the pictures to get everyones expert oppion on the rust issues (what to look for, where to look, what are the worst areas to have it ect)
Not too worried about the rocker pannels and rear quatrers but I am worried obout the A-pillar. It has a vinal top and you can see rust on the pillar where the vinal top stops by the upper corner of the windshield. I am sure it will not be an easy fix if the window frame is rusted out.

Welcome to the site 78molby. I am a Western Washington guy, nice to see another Washington guy on the site. There are several guys with the newer Olds on the site that will help you out. I am into the earlier Olds myself so of no help to you on the A pillar issue. I do know that vinal tops can be a problem with rust issues. Hopfully it works out good for you

Welcome from another western Washington olds fan! Where in Eastern Washington are you? I have a friend in Plain(next to Leavenworth) and another 40 miles north of Spokane, (Old Town, Idaho) who both do body work and might be able to give you a helping hand or at least some advice. Keep us posted!

I know it is hard to tell the value by looking at the pictures but anyone got a ball park for this one? I have looked around and could not find another one in similar condition (either way worse or way better). The only thing keeping it from driving is the clutch won't release.
He is asking $3,500. Fair or not?

My 2 cents is I would be suprised if there wasn't rust under the vinyl top.
Take a fridge magnet with you and check the fenders right behind the wheel well [by the way it's missing wheel well chrome] and the rear quarters to make sure someone hasn't Bondo'd up old body damage.
I like the car, but I think you need to know what you're getting into.
IMHO it's not the price of the car.............. it's what you can do yourself vs. What you're going to have to pay someone to do that will determie how much $$$ you are going to ultimately have in it.

OK I went and looked at the car today and noticed on the left side of the trunk lid it looks like there used to be a emblem. It looks like the emblem was "Royal". Anyone know what this is? different trim package?
BTW it was in better shape than the pictures made it out to be. The vinyl top has been removed so what you see in the pictures is what it is.
I asked the guy about the wheels. He said wait a minute I think I might have some that will fit dont know if they came with the car or not. He said I tried to take them to the dump but they were going to charge me.
They were what look to be the original SSII wheels with the center caps.

Sounds like you have found the makings of a project car. Not sure about the emblem, one of the guys who know more about your year of car will chime in on that. Could be a car dealers elblem? Are you going to make an offer?

He accepted my offer and I picked it up yesterday!
Unloaded her and put her up on ramps, pulled the inspection cover on the transmission. Found the throw-out bearing was shot. I will be pulling the trans this week.
I am excited to get her out on the road. The kids have already figured out what side of the back seat is theirs.

Started to pull the transmission last night. Only got as far as removing the Hurst shifter assembly.
Had about five neighbors come over and take a look at my new project. 3hrs in the garage, only 30min working on the car, 2.5 hrs bsing.
Will I have to remove the exhaust to get the crossmember out? The exhaust runs below the crossmember and there does not look like much room between the floor pan. I was planning on taking the exhaust loose at the manifold, just don't want to deal with broken bolts if I don't have to.
