1966 4Door Cutlass Suprrme Hard Top

Hello Oldsmobile Owners.🤔 I just purchased a ‘66 4 door cutlass supreme with a 425 Ultra High Compression engine 2 days ago. Oh! My name is Danny. My friends just use D. Any way is good with me. I live in NE North Carolina... (back to the car) I traveled 1200 miles round trip to get it, not knowing really what I was getting, besides the photos I had, and a little information. The car was purchased new but this person’s mother way back then, and they kept it in the garage most of the time. It only has 68,000 miles on it and no major rust in the pans (floors-rear trunk). I got up this morning with intentions of cleaning it up a little bit and just seeing what I have. The battery was dead so I jumped it out... Vroom! Vroom! It fired right up. It had been sitting a long time. Bad gas and all, it runs!!! I have a lot of work to do and just joined this forum today, but I am looking forward to this project... I will entertain any advise, and technical support you guys/gals can offer.

Cingrats on your purchase😀 Lemme be the first to welcome you to the group. This place has a wealth of info and everyone is great about jumping in with advice, tips and "been there, done that."

I live in Gates County North Carolina. The man I got the car from is around 80 years+... All I have at this point is to go with a mans word, and he seemed to be a good guy. The car came from Cedartown Ga. The research I have been doing shows that motor as an option in the 88’s and another vehicle,so maybe they had a special order or something. All I know is we will find out with more research (bend numbers- motor codes) etc... Thanks for the welcome

Welcome. Be aware that the 425 was never installed in the Cutlass line, so if that really is a 425, someone swapped it in there. The 1966 Supreme was only offered with the 330 motor. 1966 was the first year for the Supreme nameplate, and it was only available in a four door hardtop (Holiday Sedan in Oldsmo-speak) that year. Good luck with it.

Ok here’s the scoop...According to the vin #’s, it is an Oldsmobile with. Cutlass Supreme V8.It is a Holiday 4Door Sedan. Was manufactured in 1966, in Lansing Michigan, and was# 430270 in production...I have yet to get the motor numbers but I’m a bet it is a 425.

Ok so I found the #4 on the heads. Seems the old fellow may have been wishing he had a 425. If I was betting on this,I would have lost big time... Anyways a 330 doesn’t slow me down any, because I am still stoked on the car. The two speed transmission might leave me wanting another gear once I get it on the road. He did contact me today and the title process is in the works. North Carolina from what I am reading, can be a booger to work with DMV and classic cars. Thanks for the information, and I look forward to more input as I go on.😁👍

I believe a 66 330 should have #3 heads originally. Number 4 heads were on the 67's. Not going to say "I told you so" on the 425 so I wont...lol. If you post a picture of the trim tag on the firewall we can see build date.

This wouldn't be the first time that someone claimed that a small block Olds was a big block...
The two speed Jetaway (which has nothing in common with a Powerglide) does have the switch pitch torque converter. A TH350 is nearly a bolt-in and is a popular swap.

Another way to tell is to look down around where the oil fill tube goes into the block there's numbers:ID/ Casting

So here’s the trim plate... Getting down to the numbers on the block is going to be a booger right now, until I get it jacked up.The weather is bad here. Rain every weekend, and the breaks don’t work. I think the booster is trying to pump up but the master cylinder needs a rebuild kit...I think I will enjoy working on this fine piece of equipment. Something that doesn’t need a computer programmer to service for a change... A couple of things I have found: The heat works great, but the fan only works on high speed. The voltage regulator stays engaged when I cut it off, until I disconnect the battery and connect it back...Last time this car had tags on it was around 2000. Thanks for the input and advice.

My favorite 66 color Ocean Mist.... your trim tag shows k-2
k (Ocean Mist) and 2 ( black vinyl top ) although it looks like that was changed to full body color of Ocean Mist
at some time.

OMG!!! Information Overload! I know more now about this Oldsmobile than any other vehicle I have ever owned. So now I spend my breaks at work and at home, checking to see who has schooled me more on my new found classic. Thanks 🤔😁
