Hi from Hamburg, Germany
Guten Tag everybody,
My name ist Thorsten, I live in Hamburg, Germany. In 2014 I got my first Oldsmobile, a 1959 Super 88. It is a true survivor, unrestored and all original.
One of your members read an article about my car in OCAs JWO magazine and suggested to join this forum. So here I am

Welcome! Nice looking car, I bet there aren't too many of those over there in Germany. I kinda dig the split headlights on the '59s, a legacy that carried into the '67 and '68 Cutlasses (and a few other mid '60s Oldses).

Welcome to Classic Oldsmobile forum. Real nice car, although having driven some of the narrow roads in Germany how is it driving a big american classic on those roads. Enjoy the forum. Nice and informative people here. More pictures when you get time.

Hi,
thanks for the warm welcome!
It is true that there are not many 59 Oldsmobiles in Germany. That is one of the reasons I picked exactly this car. Anyway I do get the impression that 1959 is not a very popular year among Oldsmobile enthusiasts.
Usually driving the Olds on German roads is fine once you get used to the size of the car. What I would never even attempt is trying to get a place to park in downtown Hamburg or any larger city. That would never work out. But it is safe to say that the Olds is most comfortable on the German Autobahn.
Here are a few more pictures of the car.
Take care,
Thorsten

I've been there! Back in October 1981, right when the movie Das Boot came out. I spent the weekend in the youth Hostel as I was over there in Denmark on a Semester overseas. I thought Hamburg was GREAT.
Nice Olds and a big welcome to this site.
