Just brought home a 71 Delta 88 Royale Convertible today!

My first Olds since we sold my wife's Intrigue eight years ago! Yesterday I was offered this 1971 Delta 88 Royale Convertible that hasn't been started in 17 years -- been sitting under a storage cover in a nice insulated garage...today I showed up with my trailer and cash and have been smiling the whole day!

I'm already soaking the cylinders. Will drain the fuel tank, change the oil and try to start it tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Nice Ride!. Looks like your going to have some fun. Looks to be in pretty good shape. How's the undercarriage?

This is going to seem crazy, but I didn't even look at the undercarriage. At the price, all I needed to see was that it doesn't have typical rust on the body, the top is nice and the seats have no wear. Didn't even open the hood until I got it back -- and the engine bay is immaculate.

That 88 Looks to be in great shape. Is that original paint ? The polycast wheels are perfect on that car. Looks to be your lucky day !!

Yes, that's original paint. Other than the spark plug wires, which are Accel and hoses/belts/tires (basically the wear items) everything on initial, albeit very quick, inspection looks to be original. The previous owner put in an aftermarket modern stereo, but that was stolen, along with that central radio/vent pod/bezel/panel. Need to find a replacement one, which probably will not be easy!

I love the dash on those cars, the way they were indirect lighted- very classy. Looks like a great car!

I could really like a project like that. I suspect you'll be replacing a lot of rubber things along with brake/master cylinders. Keep us updated on how it goes.

If it's the original engine, it has to be a 455 as only two engines were offered in the '71 Delta 88 Royale. The base offering was the 455 with 2-bbl carb this car has and a 455 with 4-bbl as an optional upgrade. These were also the two engines offered in the Delta 88 Custom. For the base Delta 88, the standard engine was a 350 with 2-bbl. Both versions of the 455 were available as options.

And me. Mine also has a 455 2bbl. What options does yours have?
