Question about intake manifold gasket seals on a olds 350
#47
I always used the sealant (liquid gasket) in lieu of the rubber gasket on the intakes. I watched the rubber gaskets just squirt itself out of place of an assembled engine while still on the stand with and without silicone. So I do the same thing that I used to do on my sprint car engines...liquid gasket. 11 years on my 455 with the W30 intake and not one problem yet.

Good amount front and back and a skim coat around water jackets. just have to careful putting manifold back on so you don't get the goobie every where but where you want it. If on an engine stand if you want to detail or tool out the excess. Spray it down with soapy water after installed and use an 1/8" rubber setting block (From my Commercial Glass Days) or putty knife and scrape off excess for a finished look before it sets up. wherever its wet it wont stick to other surfaces as you scrape of excess. Then let it set up for 24 hours and your good to go and off to the races.

Question? I looked up intake manifold valley pan gaskets and Edelbrock directions say i should use Fel-pro valley pan gasket #MS96027 ,i looked up at advance auto and O'reilly valley pan gasket for 1972 350 olds and it shows #MS96009 ,i typed in the one Edelbrock recommends and it says will not fit the car.Is that because the intake manifold was changed and now that one wont fit?I just wanna make sure i get the rite part. which one is the one i should get for a 72 350 olds with an Edelbrock intake?

The only difference between the two is the size of the opening for the exhaust crossover. The '009 gasket has the small hole to match up with the 1972-earlier heads. The '027 gasket has the larger hole for 1973-up heads. Get the gasket that matches your cylinder heads.

Thank's ,i have # 6 heads as far as i know no work has ever been done on them. And i've been reading the reviews on the MS96027 and there are people that say they fit better and that the 009 dont fit that good with the edelbrock intake.

Kev.e, did how did your intake turnout? Did you use the rubber gaskets, or just use black RTV sealant? My gasket set came with to black plastic pieces I do not recognize, and I think I will not be using as I have no reference in the service manual. Thanks for your time.
