I have finally bought my first classic car. I am excited to start on this project and cruise the open road when done. I bought a 1955 Super 88 last weekend. It is a four door, but has the original 202hp v8 as well as the shell of the original 4 bbl carburetor. The car is 95% complete and does need some minor rust repair. The hood structure has failed, and has collapsed at the hinge location. I believe I have a good foundation though and I look forward to getting some experience with the welder. Welcome from another Texan with a mid 50's Olds. These are fun cars. I often say we have a romance with these cars from this era. They have lots of chrome and no plastic. They float down the road and they handle very differently. Tell us where you are located and a little about yourself. You are going to have a good time with this car. There are a bunch of us on here with 50's cars that are glad to help. Tedd is probably the king and I am sure you will hear from him.

We would love to see a little more detail on your car ( that's Classic Old's talk for we like pictures) most of us have been where you are now and we probably can help on some of the unusual issues that will most likely pop up.Looks to have good bones and I think 4 doors are cool especially if I have to get in the back seat...... Several months ago there was a ad from someone in East Tennessee,that had 2 '55 Olds 88 sedans that he was parting out. Just thought he might have a good hood, his # is423-923-7073, and goes by C.J.. Maybe it is worth a try, Good Luck, The hood hinges are extremely hard to find and nothing else fits. Larry
Take it one step at a time! Don't blow the entire thing apart, it will get overwhelming. I'd suggest doing the brakes top to bottom. Then get it running right. Have a little fun with it and then pick away at the body work. Welding is an art that takes practice, but it can be learned. Good luck!
Are you sure it's a super 88 and not a 88? Looks to be a 88 but the script on the fenders appears to be missing. I noticed it has no chrome rocker molding and from what i can tell the dash is not padded. The fact that it came with a 4bbl is not uncommon as these cars could be special ordered with a 4bbl and often were, that in it's self won't make it a super. Is the interior cloth material and what pattern are the seats done in if still original? None of this makes any difference in quality or price of this car if I'm correct or all screwed up but you should know when ordering parts or listing your car at a judged type car show. It's not a good or bad thing.It would be like me calling my car a Starfire when It isn't. Both cars are very close in design and features and with the pictures supplied I could be mistaken.... Thanks everyone for the big welcome. Its great to see an active community. I put the vin number in a olds decoder and it came back a Super 88 with the 202hp motor. Please correct me if I am wrong. I would like to have the correct information before I start ordering parts. Here are pics of the body and hood tags and I will post more pictures in the next couple of days. I value any input you guys have. I think the car was originally a solid cream color and had a green interior. No power steering or AC. The car has an Edelbrock carburetor on it right now. The 4bbl that came with the car is just a shell, so I'm not sure what I will do about that. The gas pedal is not hooked up right now since the linkages are not compatible. Does anyone have an aftermarket carb on the stock motor?The floors are rusted out but look like they can be patched. I feel it is a good base to start with. The seller claimed to have body work done. The more I look at it, I think they just put bondo over the rusted sections. Thanks again for the warm welcome!
