Howdy.....Dave in So. Utah, I'm in the process of building an "American Gasser" mfg. '40 ****** coupe. I found a '72 455 short block with a N crank for $100. I've gone by Bernard Mondello's shop and had a very good talk with him about the direction I want to go on the build. I will be using his heads I know that for sure. I'm not new to hot rods and have known long ago about the Paso Robles guy. Anyway, I'll be asking some questions when I get to the engine phase, here's the chassis so far.

Welcome. It will be good to see somebody use a 455 Olds instead of a BBC. Sounds like you know the difference in the two Mondello shops. Start a build thread on this bad boy. There will be a lot of us following it.

Howdy redoldsman, I'm a Viet Nam vet also....'67-'68. I was in the engineers, hvy equip. operator assigned to a small unit with the 9th Inf. Div. Hq. called "Bearcat". Got literally blown out of my rack the first night of TET when charles blew up the ammo dump.....scary chit as I'm sure you know. I'll post some pics when I first got the bare frame and then as I added some parts as the money allowed. I was originally thinking maybe an LS chevy which are really nice engines but the old school in me kept coming back to an Olds.

I was an avionics technician with the 366 TFW at DaNang in 69-70. Us Air Force guys never got out in the jungle like you guys did. The LS motors are great and very popular now. I am glad you are going old school and I don't think you will be disappointed. Glad to have you here.

Well thanks for all the encouragement guys, my "old school" started waaaay back growing up in So. Cal. My dad took me to Lions drag strip in 1958, there I saw many Olds powered hot rods kicking butt. Then a few years later I saw my favorite .... and still is, Stone, Woods & Cook ****** with a 6-71 blown 394 Olds. I'm pretty sure it was bored and stroked to much bigger but that thing was awsome. I'll try to start a build thread but this build will take a while, I don't have the body yet.......$$$$$$$

Probably because the file was to large. You might try downsizing your pictures or only sending a few through at a time and see if that helps. That is a problem that happens a lot on this site... Welcome aboard...Love your project.... Tedd

Thanks Ted, I'll give it another try today ...... sixties-forever, if I'm reading it correctly you were in the 11th Armored Cav? One of our guys ....Bob Prutch was tired of moving dirt and wanted to get into the "action" as he put it. He went over to the 11th Cav. and from what I heard he became a door gunner on a huey gunship. Also heard later that he didn't last too long. Good guy from I think Redondo Beach, Ca. I just hit my 50th anniv. back to the world on April 4th.
