Olds Newbie Form The Netherlands
Hello Fellow Olds Owners,
Hereby I want to introduce myself.
I'm Ruben 23 years young and owner of this 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Salon.
I've recently restore it the way I wanted (black on red Rock and Roll style)
Most of the rubbers and interior are brand new from Rock-auto. on the body I had a bunch of welding to do, and a mate of mine painted it half gloss black for me. interior was Imola-red painted by myself (original Targa colour)
had the rims powder coated close to the Imola-red.
Had nothing done with the engine, until now because my timing chain has 15* of play and jumped a few teeth. so tomorrow I will the Olds to the V8 doctor for repairs.
Engine is a number matching: 350, 4-barrel with 8# heads with a self welded dual exhaust. (without headers)
here some photos for the end result
(sorry for my bad English)
greetz from Holland

Cool. Any chance your car was a taxi sometime in the past? I may have had a ride in it over there in the early 90s
Concerning the timing chain, I don't remember if that year still had the plastic timing gear coating but if it did you may have something like this in your oil pan. That pile of stuff is the remains of the plastic gear after it shatters. Most of it was stuck in the oil pump screen. The repair shop put on a new chain and gears but didn't clean the oil pan.
Good luck!

Hi Eric,
when I read that you had I ride in it as a taxi I was chocked. because my Olds was turning yellow when I sanded it (see photo). According to my license papers Oldsie was imported to Holland in 2002 with yellow paint. 1st Dutch owner painted in black later on but didn't let change the colour on the license paper. the v8-doctor where I brought Oldsie had to remove the oilpan anyway because of a leaking crank seal. he's cleaning the oil pump screen also. Oldcutlasseric made an external thread for me about the timing chain issue, but I will post pictures of that here anyway. GR Ruben

Ha ha! I guess it wasn't your car then, haven't been over there since 1995. I remeber taxi rides through the narrow cobblestone streets of Amsterdam in early 70s Chevy and Olds taxis. Sometimes the mirrors would clip the buildings!
Good luck with the motor.
Eric

Just received an e-mail of the V8-doctor, 15* of play on the is now confirmed (for some this picture is chocking or not) cam sprocket has jumped 4 TEETH(see arrows). new sprocket and chain are ordered (even better than Colyes) can't remeber the brand. soon the oilpan will removed for cleaning.

UPDATE
Oldsie is on the road again!
New cam set, engine rubbers, crackseals, gaskets, pulleys aligned. Drives like new again!
Only one problem: the alternator pulley is slipping to much. I have been told that there is double pulley for AcDelco alternator. Maybe that will fix the problem. hope to find 1 here in the netherlands. here some photos!
