New Owner of a 1965 Cutlass
Hey Everyone,
My son and I just purchased a 1965 Cutlass for a father/son project. I am excited to get started on the project but was wondering where everyone goes to get all of their parts. Are there specific stores online that deals with Oldsmobile? I am having a hard time finding them. Thanks for all the help and it is nice to meet everyone.

You're in good company here. There are a few vendors that carry goodies for Oldsmobiles:

Just to name a few of the bigger players. Enjoy your resto - 1965 is my favourite year.

Welcome to the site, we love father and son projects. How old is your son? Most mechanical parts you can find at your local auto parts store or internet supplier. Body and trim parts not so much. You can also use the classified parts wanted section on here. Post some pictures of your project.

Welcome to Classic Olds. You have already received some excellent information as usual. It's always available on this site. Best of luck with you and your son's project. We would love to see pictures of the car, and do take pictures of work done while the project progresses. Larry

Welcome to the group... It's always good to hear of Father / Son projects... It helps to keep the interest in the old car hobby alive, especially being an Oldsmobile... Now let's see some pics of that project 65 Cutlass...

Welcome. The vendors will vary depending on the parts you need. Weatherstripping and rubber parts are sold by Steele Rubber and Metro. Upholstery and door panels from Legendary and PUI. Olds-specific repro parts are Fusick, Supercars, Parts Place, OPGI, Year One, etc. Sheet metal (what little there is for the 65 cars) from AMD and Autobody Specialties. Most mechanical parts (suspension, steering, etc) are available from normal auto parts sources (NAPA, RockAuto, etc). Electrical from American Autowire. Carpet from ACC.
Note that where parts are common with Chevelles (suspension, brakes, floor pans and inner sheet metal, glass, etc), they are available everywhere. Parts that are Olds-unique, not so much.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the websites. My son is 11 so we have some years ahead of us to complete the project. I say father/son project but now the wife and daughter want to be apart of it to. So I guess this is a family project. The only problem is, who is going to be the boss and make the decisions? Lol. Our first step is to pull the engine and trans. Rebuild the engine and change the trans to a manual. Has anybody ever had experience changing the trans from a auto to manual and if so is it hard and or expensive. Also the car currently has a 350. From everyone's experience what is an all around good street cruiser engine for these cars. I was thinking stroking the engine to a 383 with a nice set up AFR or Trickflow heads, decent cam, long tube headers, x pipe and dumped before the axle. I really appreciate all the help from everyone.

Picture of the engine and we can positively ID it. Get us a good pic of the area between water pump and intake manifold.
If the family is involved and supportive, the project is less likely to get derailed. You might be surprised what the ladies are capable of doing once you're started.
Going from automatic to stick will probably require machining a pilot bearing hole in the crank. Pedals and z-bar are common to most A-body cars from those years and plenty of Chevelles and Tempests had 3-speed sticks. Me, I'd look into a Turbo 350 or 200-4R swap with a ratchet shifter.
