No power no start

I just bought a 72 cutlass. I turned the Key the car fired right up like it was supposed to. I cut the car off and then tried to start it again but this time no Power and wont crank. I Heard a faint clicking Sound. So I tried to Jump it off, but still No power, headlights not on either. I assume its an electric issue. where should I start trouble shooting first.

Welcome and congrats on the purchase...pictures!!!

Sounds like a weak battery either due to being old or not being charged. Start troubleshooting by checking the battery voltage across the battery terminals, should be about 12 VDC. Check the same with someone trying to crank the engine and let us know what you find. If you can get it started check the voltage with it running, should be about 13.8 to 14,2VDC with a fully charged battery.

If convenient pull the battery, take it to an auto parts store have it charged and tested.

Good luck!!!

It gets pretty expensive just throwing parts at a problem. I would troubleshoot first, what did you jump it off with? Did the lights come on with a jump? How much voltage did you read on the battery?

If the battery is more than four years old or left discharged for a long period it may be time replace it, otherwise charge and test. Costco has good prices on Interstate batteries.

SHARP...SHARP car...good luck with it!
