Newbie - will be seeking help

He didn't in the movie. I don't know about real life.
It's actually the "six degrees of separation" thing. Fenders led to Gibson guitars which led to gibson drinks which led to Cary Grant. Eventually we'll connect it to black holes or Klingons!

So let me get this straight - Cary Grant's mum got tipsy drinking Gibsons and slept with a Guitar playing minstrel in London, had to klingon to the bedpost to stop falling into a black hole and the result was West by North West.

Bond, James Bond
It should have been named "North By Northleft".
How about a Vesper Martini, "Shaken not stirred"???
It would be much more appropriate for your location.
The Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" had an Olds kind of like yours Abbeyland.
The IMDB say's it's a '27 but beats me.
Does your car have a passenger's ejection seat????

The names Bond ...
.... James Bond - now that's really cool - Me and Mr Bond have something in common - I think the girl in the passenger seat is my wife - I'll have to ask her what she was doing - told me she was going to get her hair done!!

Yup. I couldn't have said it better myself.

So having been out ....
... and got me an Oldsmobile I now find I have more in common with James Bond, Eric Clapton, Cary Grant and Les Paul than I do with Dick van Dyke. Well I'm now a happy bunny and Mrs P prefers Cary and Eric to Dick any day of the week. Truly Scrumptious eat your heart out!

Just figured out that ....
... if I can keep you engaged for another 30 posts we can have the longest string (apart from the moderator) on the newbie board. So here is where I start getting technical. Where is the cigar lighter? Have hunted all over the dash and can't spot it anywhere!

A stroke of luck ....
... have just found the Oldsmobile 1927 Six Owner's Manual for sale. Admittedly it comes from Canada but will give me a good idea of what the original was like for comparison. Not cheap but worth the expense to get things right and make sure that all the mechanicals etc., can be well maintained. So onwards and upwards - progreess is being made towards ensuring a concourse original Oldsmobile!!

I doubt that you will find there are any major differences mechanically. My dad had a 1929 Model A Leatherback built in the U.S but had a manual from Ontario and when I went over it I could find no differences mechanically.
#52
Thanks for that - you never know - the only difference may be in the body work but I agree the mechanicals should be the same.
#54
It is possible there are subltile differences in the body as yours is RHD. Most bodies were made by Fisher or Murray back in those days but finding a book from that time can be difficult. Is the manual you got the service manual for the 27 6 cylinder? Does it include anything about the body or are you looking for another manual for the body? Was it body by Fisher or Murray?
#55
Perhaps it will work as a get well soon perk then. And surely that should be a new member to trunk ... although it doesn't quite scan as well!

Ah Wolfman - so many questions I can't answer. I believe the rolling chassis was sent over to either South Africa or Australia/New Zealand in 1927. Apparently to minimise import duties. The bodies were then built by Holden presumably to an Oldsmobile template as they look pretty much like the original. I know the body is steel on an ash frame. The manual is purely servicing mechanics - still looking for a body manual and I know they are around. The manual is the 1927 Oldsmobile 6 series E Owners Manual which I assume came with the car when it was purchased. As soon as I have received I will fill in more details as to the content.

.. can never have enough material for reference. If you have any contacts would be only to pleased to get in touch with them. Have researched but very difficult to find real information on earlier Olds models.

You could always just use your trusty Zippo??
I take it that Q instructed you how to safely use it so you don't take out another car or a helicopter when you light up your ***??
#62
Have to get me a pack of Luckies - or should I stick with the 007 theme and buy Sobranie - shaken, not stirred!! Tried to light my *** - but he complained bitterly!!
#63
I will drop into keith's shop soon and see what he has for info , I know he is working on a 20's something Olds. Probably what there is will be from north america but most of the body builders worked from a template for the body. See what I can find out.
#64
Wolfman - you're a star. Many thanks.

Was my brand of choice for lots of years before I quite. Use to roll them up in the sleeve of my "T" shirt James Dean style. That a black narrow belt, Jeans you put on wet to shrink, Rolled up one shot cuff, Pull on black boots, DA haircut. Man we all looked so cool

Lucky Strike Green were in camouflage pack - trouble was the soldiers could never find them when they were in uniform - so they changed the pack to white with a big red circle. Then the enemy used the circle as target practice so they took the pack out of their top pocket and put it in their sleeve. Only got a flesh wound then at worst - and at best they missed.

Found this on the net if it is something interesting. It is for the series E

Wolfman you're a little treasure!! I shall look at buying all three. Can't really go wrong and if they duplicate I can re-sell. Again thanks for the research - very impressed.

No problem. As far as I have found out the cars should be very similar to those made in the U.S. and Canada. The differences may be in small details that the body builder adds. I have not found anything yet on a holden built body and it may be much more difficult as there were not as many cars built. I will keep checking for you though , keith is on holiday's right now , down in Florida I think , so I will talk to him sometime soon. Cheers.
