New Oldsmobile owner in Lubbock, Texas

Thanks for the addition, I am a new Oldsmobile owner here in Lubbock, Texas. Me, my brother, and a friend purchase old cars and get them running and pass them off to someone else, hopefully at least breaking even so we can purchase something else and do it again. We recently purchased a 1968 vista cruiser from a junk yard. It is ROUGH. Lots of rust and broken glass. Will be needing lots of help with questions and parts suggestions, so thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site, I will advise that you have potentially chosen the wrong vehicle to buy rough with hopes of generating a large profit. These cars are better to be purchased in as pristine condition as possible as the restoration parts are more scarce and often expensive. You might be better off to part it out if it is “rough”, if your end objective is profit.

X2. The glass is almost unobtainable. Post some pictures when you can.

Thanks for the reply. Our goal really isn’t to turn a large profit, it’s to get old cars back on the road to those that want to do more to them. While hopefully at least breaking even. I’ll try to post some pics when I can. It has the 400 with the 2 barrel. Hood is good, 3 of the four doors are good, front fenders are good and rear tailgate is decent. One of the side rounded glass tops is broke and one of the rear side glass is cracked, the font windshield is cracked up but there. We do have a lead on a car with glass, so not too worried about that. We have seriously thought about parting it out, just waiting for a few more inspections on our part to determine if it’s even worth trying to get it roadworthy……

Welcome, but be advised that finding parts for a Vista will be a challenge. The back doors are unique to the Vista due to the extra 5" of length. The roof windows are unobtanium. I had to buy a complete parts car to get roof glass for my 64 Vista. Floor pans behind the front seat are unique to the Vista and Sport Wagon. Trans is unique (it's a long-tail TH375 in small block cars - it looks like a TH400 but has lighter duty internals and a smaller diameter output shaft). Good luck, but enter this project with your eyes open.
