New to the forum and to the olds family

Just picked up a 67 Cutlass convertible (2 weeks ago). Still trying to figure out what I got. The former owner (had it for a couple months) said he thought it has a 455 from a 1973 cutlass 442. Any hint or direction (websites) on how I can figure out what I got (transmission especially because I need a flywheel cover) would be appreciated.

Seeing the pictures and reading the posting on this site will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Welcome I sure some 67 owners will chime in quickly. A quick check on block size is to measure the intake. 12 inches across small block 14 inches big block. Should be a casting # on the front of the block behind the water pump I believe. Also look for a letter on the heads and post that. If it is a number it is a small block.
This is agreat site. You will have answers pretty quickly.

Talking Welcome to CO

If it is a 455 it most likley has a turbo 400 behind it. If its a turbo 400 it has an electric downshift, if its a turbo 350 it has a cable downshift.

Thanks. Found the engine serial number 398021F. Is there a good site for tracking this?
I haven't checked the transmission downshift but will in the morning.
Thanks Pat & Larry

I believe it should be a 396021F, regardless F indicates a 455 70-72.

And welcome.
