My Dream car is going to be a Nightmare/ What have i got myself into?
Hello everybody My name is Nunya and I'm an Oldsaholic.
I've been browsing this Forum for awhile now and know I have found a new home. With your help I will be resurrecting a 1970 Cutlass Coupe.
This project means a lot to me for a few reasons, it starts with somebody Else's dream.
the car belonged to my brother in law, who died way to soon, (don't ask its not pretty, i may tell you about it some day, but not now.)
long story short... the car went through a couple different hands after he passed away, and found its way back to me. The problem is I have extra parts in some areas, and I'm missing parts in other important areas.
Lets see, I have Fiberglass fenders, and a front bumper i may not want or need, (i have the steel originals.)
I have the original 350 block , BUT No FREAKING MAIN CAPS!!! AAGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!
I have the original Head.
I have a drivers door that will not open.
I have a spare core support. why?
Well before this turns into a long story I'll stop, and just say......
Thank You for the help you have already given me just by helping others in the past, and Thank You for the help I will get in the future.

Welcome to CO. Doesn't sound so much like a nightmare, sounds like a good start on a project. Don't allow yourself to get overwhelmed, set a plan, a goal with dates for completion (even if the date is Spring 2013) for whatever needs done and then start at it. We'll be here.

Thanks for the warm Welcome.
It looks like i may have found a 350 olds engine less than a mile from home thanks to a friend. Gotta check it out to see if its worth buying.
1970supremevert I will have to get in touch with you about the core support. let me find out whats up with the possible engine that is close to home first.
I'm going to get some pic's of the car/parts up soon, and start a new thread or two to transition this out of the new member intro's, but i have pretty much decided to sell off the fiberglass fenders, and bumper (made by US Body) I see there are for sale/ looking for areas. (locked out for me At the moment, no big deal.)
This is going to be fun for Me. My wife may not like it, but if it comes down to it I will be rebuilding an engine in the living room this winter. (small house, no garage,, heck my house used to be a garage. lol)

Welcome aboard!
Sounds like you are getting a plan together - great!
Are you going to restore? Get it into a nice daily driver?
Focus on the important things first, like getting it mobile, and stoppable.
Sell off the parts you do not need and use the $ to buy what you do need.
It WILL take lots of time and effort, but hey, they all do!

It's just a series of small problems. Take 'em on one at a time.
Post your actual location... "general confusion" is humorous but does little to help get you an engine.
You know, the machine shop CAN fit some other caps to your block, for 1 or 2 c-notes. I have dozens of engines. Local boneyards have two rebuilt 350's rotting away because no one will buy them. They will be gone by the end of the summer.
Rebuilding can be done where need be; I assembled my current 403 engine outdoors, working between storms in MI. I just covered it well and put it back under the awning between work sessions. Between work sessions make sure it gets oiled and 100% covered with multiple plastic bags. You never know how long it will be before you get back to it.
PS I have donor main caps sets if need be, not real pricey. I have parted out many an engine, and on some, the only thing left was main caps.
