1965 Delta 88 from Sweden
Hi all
I have been lurking around the forum for some time now, and thought it was time for a introduction.
Bought a 1965 Delta 88 in provincial white almost a year ago. It had just been imported to sweden from Pennsylvania a couple of weeks earlier by the dealership I found it at. The story is that a university professor bought it new in -65 and kept it until he passed away in the -90:s. Since then it has been with 2 more owners before ending up in my hands. The last owner replaced the engine, and that is probably the only major work done to the car. Just minor surface rust in small places, very solid overall.
I have been cruising the entire summer with no big issues at all. Replaced voltage regulator and alternator. Also replaced the weatherstripping along the roof line.
As mentioned, the engine has been replaced at some point. I have looked up the different ID Numbers and found out that the block is from 1966-1967 (389244 D). The intake is from a 1970-1972 455 cid (404521 D1 V), probably to accomodate the 1970 quadrajet on top. Heads are 1966 B heads (389395). With my limited knowledge, I assume this combo matches the 365 HP variant of the 425.
The options list consists of tinted windshild, power trunk release and deluxe front seat belt retractors
Future plans? Mostly regular maintenance and cruising. I have a retrosound headunit waiting to be installed this weekend. Before the summer season, I will send the carb to a q-jet guru in sweden for an overhaul and calibration for the ethanol infested swedish gasoline.
I would like beefier wheels, I think the current 225:s look a bit skinny. Don’t know how wide I could fit without clearance issues?
Would also like a little more sound from the single exhaust, and, in the long term, an air ride setup would be nice. We’ll see what happens
finally, some pictures of the big old boat
cheers!
