Cool 1964 442

I have owned and loved Oldsmobiles since 1972. I can not count all the Deltas, Cutlass, Vistas, F85s, and 98s I've owned. I am attracted most to the 1964 F85 body style.I've gathered and collected 64 parts, pieces, and cars when ever I find them. About 8 years ago I was able to purchase my first 442, a Cutlass Holiday with A/C and power windows. It's not a "10" but still a very nice car and a real fun driver. About 2 months ago I found out it is not a true 442. There was no build sheet but it had everything I knew to look for at the time. Had I known to look for the one piece frame in front of the rear wheels, I never would have bought it. Well live and learn.

Welcome to the site! Please post pictures of your car when you have time. Sorry the car didn't turn out to be what you thought. I hope you can enjoy driving it as a nicely equipped Cutlass. I've got several 1964's and there's several members here who also have them. John

I continue to tell myself that the seller of this car did not know the truth about either.

Yes, it is a very nice car! I don't have a 1964 442 but I've got a factory 4 speed project car. On this site I've learned that in both 1964 and 65, possibly up to 1967 the manual transmission cars had the same frame as the 442. With the one piece in front of the rear axle. Does your car have the dual snorkel air cleaner? If its original, then you must have parts from a 442 on your car. A while back members here were trying to identify if the engine application code was specific on the 442 330's. Here's a couple threads you might enjoy reading through.

Thanks guys for the complements. As I understand it, if the cowl tag has "2L" after ACC. its a four speed car, which mine has. Yes, it has the dual snorkel air cleaner, along with boxed lower rear control arms, parallel holes on front fender 442 emblems, and 2 large holes under trunk lid for rear emblem access. Maybe I should track down the person that did the last restoration to see if maybe it was a 442 with a bad frame and it got changed, not knowing the difference.

Are the boxed lower control arms boxed over the entire length of the control arm or just the half length box?

Welcome! Great looking '64! Where in NH are you located? I am in Nottingham and hit the cruise nights on a regular basis. Always welcome to join in and add to the Oldsmobile numbers that show up!

If the car was a non-air car maybe chk for the frame change.

64 442s also had no A/C... another "Well live and learn"

You mean the suggestion that AC was incompatible with the 1964 4-4-2? Far from an expert on these cars, but it rings strange to me too.
