WTG Bill, glad you got through your little hiccup!! Now treat it with respect, not like a rented mule. Save some money for emergencies first, and then start improving on it.

Its the gen light it never goes off for some reason and I won't do it anymore I free revved it because it would backfire through the carb before I adjusted the timing and when I advanced it the backfire went away today is a bit of a fun day for me but no more its time to get serious and MD that was there to protect the sticky wheel from getting on my hands idk I see them a lot on older gm cars

Congrats bill on a job well done!!!

On the Gen light you need to make sure your alt is charging correct. Under charging will kill your batt and over charging will cook the batt and over charge it.

Bill what carb/Cfm are you running ? You should be getting better mileage then that. I am guessing around 12 if you can keep your foot out if it.
Maybe, start a help thread and see if any one is near you that could help you set it up. you need more then a rebuild to set them up, timing, plugs / wires and the right set up on the carb jets/ metering rods

Thumbs up

Damn loud-*** Oldsmobile...

We had Purple Hornies back in the 70s but I can't remember who made them. My Mopar friends liked 'em a lot. I had a thing for Thrush mufflers but thinking back those things were heinous loud and didn't really sound that good.

Proud of you young'un!

My friend tuned her in somewhat so I'll have you a video in about an hour or 2 of some driving waiting on the camera to charge won't be no funny business just a cruise since I'm still not sure of the mileage which should increase but things don't always happen as they should

Keep that big right foot out of the secondaries and mileage will go WAAAYYY up!

A QuadraJet would give you best mileage overall. Aftermarket AFB's were never particularly noted for fuel mileage... but yeah, 6 mpg is kinda rough. I'm guessing car's had a lot of idling and not moving time while you've been sorting it out. That'll tear mileage up too.

Wish we were closer together. I could use some wrench and tuning time, or anything to get me away from this powerplant.

It should, though jetting might be slightly off.

It will all depend on your cam and rev range. At your stage of doing this, I'd say just try it and see if it works. You may need to do something to the linkage to get it to attach, but you may not.

Get the car some road time with the advanced timing and choke problem solved and you may see a mpg increase. Pretty sure it's been sitting still a lot and if engine's running sitting still you're getting no mpg. A stock or mildly built Olds 350 with reasonable gearing (3.23 or higher) ought to give you about 12-14 mpg.

The Buick GS QJet may be metered bigger than what you have. Lots of Buicks used 800 cfm QJets (standard QJet is 735/750 cfm). AFB's use jets and metering rods same as a QJet, just made different and no, they don't interchange.

I can't remember what intake you have on there. Some will take both square-bore (Holley/ AFB, all four throttle bores same size) and spread-bore (QuadraJet, secondaries MUCH bigger then primaries) carbs; others are set up for only one type.

Keep us posted. Always enjoy seeing a young guy succeed!

Thanks guys I'm currently saving for a new intake cause my hot air choke broke off and in the process of drilling and threading the hole broke it was real brittle it isn't affecting performance but I'm gonna go ahead and take care of things early also trying to get me a carb that don't leak when I park it or possibly adjust my floats on this one.... Got to get a few misc oil pan bolts also trying to get ahold of my friend to get her in the booth to paint.....lots of things going on but its gonna take time

Don't waste your time and money. Just go to the auto parts store and buy a manual choke kit and install it and worry about more important things.
