'66 442 Finally in Paint

Nice. One comment, the bypass hose should go to 11 o'clock on the water pump. Fusick makes a correct repro hose. The factory did that since the water neck was pushed forward to clear the front carb, and the 4 barrel bypass hose would get pinched almost shut trying to go to 12 o'clock on the pump.

John,
yes it's Burgundy Mist... not the original color to my car, but I thought
it would look nice with the side trim painted the argent(?) and the black
interior with white headliner. Can't decide on wheels just yet, but I'm a long ways from having to worry about that. As for the air cleaners, I lost
mine in a move and so I'll have to locate them or something close to the originals. Any ideas where I can locate those animals? I've been told that
about the by-pass hose, Run to Rund, but I'm not sure I'm buying it. My buddy from High School bought a new '66 442 Holiday with the L69 and his
had a "formed" by-pass just like the one I have on the engine. I understand the housing for the thermostat is further forward, and I've seen
how guys cross the hoses but I think I'll stick with the pre-formed by-pass as it works and I think it looks better.

Air cleaners are reproduced but I don't recall which vendor offers them. Curt Anderson is hoping to reproduce the shrouds soon. The GM Parts book and Illustration Manual show the bypass hose I mentioned. I also have magazine articles from 66-7 showing it.

Guy.... I've been thinking about a vinyl top for about a month now. I would have to get the trim (don't know where that will come from and also haven't done any research on top material as yet. For now, I'm gonna finish it up without a vinyl top and see what she looks like. That is a very nice lookin ride you got buddy. Hope mine turns out as nice as yours appears. Just can't get a handle on wheel/tire combination yet. Oh well, just more to think about I guess. Run to Rund - I'm not disputing the other hose configuration, I'm just saying I know what came on my buddies car (very very early build) and as I said, I prefer the look with the formed by-pass hose. It's formed in the shape of a (?) and fits very nicely. I'll check the fan blade(hell I've installed things wrong before, so it wouldn't surprise me if I got the fan blade on backwards)....

MORE PICS!!!!
It'll be a virtual twin to my buddies car, Burgandy mist & L69
What transmission do you have? He's got 4 spd & buckets.
There is ANOTHER 66 442 near here, another burgandy mist car, but with the black vinyl top like Guy's... So there are 3 of us (if you count my cutlass) that are near twins within about a 10 mile radius. Kinda cool.
My friend has 15x8 SSI's w/ diamond back Redline radials. Looks killer.

Thanks Rambow.... It has 4speed with black buckets (new Legendary covers and foams, front and rear) and console... Factory reverb unit (still works), p/s and p/b... any idea where I can get the trim if I decide to do the vinyl top and a source for the correct material for the top? also, I would like to replace the console base if you got a lead on one. Thanks, Nufo (Fred)...

Yep, more pics
first shot - POR 15 (1) coat
second - primer coat
third - primer second coat
fourth - trunk tiger stripes for block sanding
fifth - sealer (2) coats
so here's whats on the car
1 coat POR15
4 coats of filler/primer/tiger stripes for block sanding between each coat
1 coat sealer
2 coats tinted sealer
4 coats of color
5 coats of clear
Now car has to be color sanded three times 1000/2000/3000 then rubbed/buffed/polished... still a very very long way to go....
I have NO idea why I started this...

She needs a name
every car I've ever owned(well you know, the one's that count anyway) has had a name and so I need to come up with a name for this one. Had her since about '79 or so. She was born green (obviously she's changed her colors). As you can tell from the first pics she is now Burgundy Mist Irid.. She's strong willed but patient (hell she's waited since '84 for me to get off my butt and help her get well again. So, any suggestions for a name would be appreciated. Can't promise I'll pick one of them but it's fun and who knows maybe something will strick her fancy....
