I am thinking of taking my new project on the Power Tour

I just bought a 1968 442 4bbl 4speed car. I plan on doing a close to stock rebuild. The car is missing the original 400 and original exhaust manifolds but has every other piece. I even have the original tags on the M21 close ratio and Chevy 12 bolt(Canada Car?). I also have the original intake, heads, accessory brackets, alternator, carburetor, air cleaner, and such. The car came with a rebuilt 455(in 1985) and a set of headers.
As I was power washing the mold and 24 years of grime off the car it hit me. I should take this car on the Power Tour instead of my Nova. My wife is not going with me this year in order to stay home with the kids so I don't have to worry about driving an A/C car.
I'm going to be hauling butt to get the car roadworthy, but I think it would be cool to rock out a "city" find on the tour. I call it a city find because everyone is raving about their barn finds. I actually found this car behind a gentlemans house in columbus. He got the car in 1985 from a man in Grove City Ohio. That man owned the car since 73. The original owner was this mans brother; not 100% sure but I think the Original Owner died. Anyways, the brother took the engine apart in order to replace the pistons(gas crunch and didn't want to pay for premium) and the car was never put back together. The third owner bought the car and put it together with a 425 and drove it. He then tore it apart in 88 to paint it red and build up a 455. He never finished putting the motor in it! The paint was professionally done. The entire car was disassembled and done right. However, 36 years of sitting under a tarp was not easy on it.
Anyways, I think I can get the car road worthy by then. All I need to do is fix: the brakes, rebuld the rear end(seals and bearings if rusty), rebuild the transmission, rebuild the engine, clean out the interior, boil out the fuel tank............you know the easy stuff

Better get busy! I'll expect to see you in June when the Power Tour hits my town. If it is a Canadian built car, then it will have a "Made in Canada" stamped into the cowl tag.

Yes it is a Canadian car. See my other thread where I ask for help decoding the Canada body tag. Its gonna be a quick 2 months.

Go for it, I can't wait to do one of these, I was going to do it last year and I just couldn't get around to it. Seems to me any car is worth taking on one of these as long as it won't leave you stranded (of course any car can vut I'd like to limit my odds)

Power Tour is what you make of it.

I agree. Any car is worth taking on the tour. The tour is what you make of it; not what car you drive. Everyone should try it at least once. Also, keeping the car running is part of the excitement on the tour. I've always had a blast on the tour. This year it will be just me and a few friends. Im trying to get at least one to do long haul with me. I look forward to meeting some people that I talk with online but have never spoke to face to face.

Sounds like a plan. Are you in Ohio? I'm in Columbus, sounds like the 442 was a good find. My neighbor had been going on the Power Tour the last few years (69 Camaro). I would love to go, but I don't think my Cutlass will be road worthy this year.

Yes I live in Cedarville; south of Springfield and east of Xenia. The power tour is fun. I hope I get the car roadworthy by then, but at least I have a backup if plans don't fold out for me.
